Good starter kit to help identify rocks
Shipped fast, kit complete to help identify rocks. Good kit for beginner, intermediate rock hound and collector.

Nice kit but no directions for use.
I love the idea of the kit. I know how to test for the Mohs hardness number. Would not be able to give as a gift to a budding rock hound due to the fact there is absolutely no information about any thing in this kit. Let alone how to use it. I saw a similar review dated about 2 years ago with the seller commenting that they were working on that. Thought for sure it would have something in it, but nope.

Good basic set for mineral ID
This is a decent basic set (7 loose pieces) useful for mineral identification. I think it was over priced for what was in the set.

Save your money and build your own from household materials..
This product is just alright. Passable. I bought this to test the relative hardness of stones for rock tumbling. I didn't have some of the same quality issues as the customers in other reviews did (i.e. items arriving broken), but the magnet arrived chipped and scratched and the magnifying glass is scratched and foggy. I received two glass slabs instead of one, but they were in perfect condition somehow despite not having any cushioning to protect them from damage. I didn't expect amazing quality for the price, but I regret purchasing this set. The packaging and quality control could use some serious improvement.

Small, but gets the job done!
I got this for my 6th grader. It was smaller than I expected. We have had fun using it to test out differect rocks. Everything was packaged up well so it wouldnt break. It comes in a brown box that isnt easy to store everything back in, so you may want to have something to put everything in. Other than that it was great. My son was very happy!
