This replaces a vintage set of outside calipers that were finally worn out after at least one lifetime of use before I got them. The Groz outside calipers feel very solid and works easily. First of all, the edges are all rounded -- it feels great in the hand, and no sharp edges. Metal is polished to a medium satin and the tool came covered in a nice coat of oil, so no rust. The adjustment nut knurling is sufficient for grip and not sharp - the screw itself is fine enough to get a snug slip-fit on parts (accuracy), the tension on the spring is firm but not overly tight. And the size is perfect for a shop apron pocket or just to live on the pegboard beside the lathe. Speaking of which, I might get another - one for the wood lathe, one for the metal lathe. very nice tool that should perform well and last.

I needed an inexpensive tool for wood turning. These work great. Easy to adjust but holds a set dimension well. They are well made and the tips that are key to accurate dimensioning come together precisely and are repeatable. Not for ultra precision work but great for the woodshop. Reasonable cost.

I needed several small outside calipers to turn handles for woodworking tools. I will be doing 30 handles using the calipers to copy a "master". Being able to set a caliper for each diameter on the master was a great aid. I was concerned about quality given their reasonable price. But, my concern quickly disappeared upon examining the Groz calipers. The Groz 4" outside calipers worked perfectly. Great Value and they will be a useful addition to my tool set. Five Star form and function.

Very nice calipers, but be ready to spend 15-20 minutes cleaning all the heavy oil that is all over them, when you first take them out of the packaging. I used alcohol prep pads, then a cotton rag soaked in isopropyl alcohol.

To get 3 calipers at this price is a great deal. They aren't the highest quality but they work well. I like this type of caliper because you can drop them over a piece on the lathe while it's still spinning, no need to turn the machine on and off every few seconds. Just turned 18 spindles for some stools, ends needed to fit into 5/8ths hole snuggly. Set these to just a bit over 5/8ths and then used a dial type caliper to fine tune. Dial caliper really can't be used with machine on, don't know if it moves or not. Great item especially considering the price.

I'm a professional woodturners and have long been irritated by how flimsy the vast majority of outside spring calipers are. These calipers have ended my search for a good quality caliper that is also affordable. Great feel, fit, and finish. The spring is good and stuff, and the adjusting nut precise and spins easy without any play. No burrs or rough edges. These are a terrific value. I went ahead and ordered 2 dozen more for students to use in classes that I teach.

Works as well as expected in my wood working shop

I use it for wood turning, satisfied with my purchase but only need to file the tips since there were burrs but no big deal.
