I had a cheap wood and plastic bread slicer that pales in comparison to this. It did eventually occur to me that every time I would slice my bread I was getting little pieces of plastic in it and on my knife and then I was eating that. Not to mention the fact that it was clunky and a very bad design. However this kitchen appliance is gold!! it slices like butter. My favorite feature is that the feet have a little suction cups so it’s nice and sturdy and doesn’t shift. It is one of the best splurges ever. If you’re a bread baker this is a must have. I recommend that you put it on your Christmas list and share it with your family!

Good slicer. Like the shuttle, and the fact it protects you from the blade. Wish it had a little more travel because the blade sometimes doesn’t quite completely cut the last edge. If paying attention you can push the loaf a little further, but when slicing a loaf would rather the shuttle have that extra travel. That’s the reason for the 1 less star, but really a half star. It’s a really good slicer with finer width adjustment than the zassenhaus (also purchased). Haven’t tried anything but bread, but looking forward to trying deli meats, etc.

Chose this slicer for my sourdough bread. Adjustable thickness setting is great, cuts through the crust with ease, and without smashing the loaf. Suction footing works well with granite countertops.

Good quality, unlike other competitors out there and really made in Germany. Very solid product, very satisfied.

Received this about a month ago and absolutely Love the precision cuts I can now do on my sourdough bread, used to dislike the process but now I have to get to it before my husband because he likes to slice the bread now.

I've only used this for 3 loaves so far and I have to say it is brilliant! I don't plan to use it for anything other than bread. My sourdough bread tends to have a very tough crust on the base and this slices through it so easily, it's great! The build is sturdy, but it's light and easy to move around - which is great as it means I can use it on my lower table (easier on the shoulder). The wooden handle spins on its spindle - I believe some don't, and this is what you want. The sliding tray is removable, so if your food is too large to fit, you can just remove it - although you'd have to be very careful with the blade of course. I guess the height of the blade might be a limiting factor if you have a huge joint of meat. You can see in the video I have removed the tray as I have a large loaf. Towards the biggest part, the slice does start to hit the handle. I thought this might annoy me but it's easy to move your finger across to push it across, or I saw someone use a magnet and steel ruler as a guide, so this doesn't happen. My shoulder has been injured so I was slightly nervous going for a manual slicer, but it is really easy to use, not requiring much force. You can see I'm using it on a wooden table - so not well anchored and it doesn't move - it probably would if I put more force on it. You could always stick it to a glass table protector. I haven't had to clean it yet, other than wipe the blade with a damp cloth. The blade is removable - I might invest in some special gloves before I do that.

Simple, robust, excellent slicer. Mainly use it for slicing homemade bread. Cut slices are more uniform, easier to cut compared to using a bread knife before. No more squished, uneven slices. Has rubber suction feet to keep slicer in place on kitchen counter top, a small dial to adjust how thin or thick you want slice to be and a nice big revolving blade to cut from under as opposed to slicing it from top. Slice tray with plastic guide makes it very easy to keep the bread in place while slicing forward. The slicing is smooth and one can rotate the handle faster or slower depending on bread hardness. Fast delivery, simple assembly (only manual assembly was to slide in the handle and rotate it to lock position), instructions in German, English only.

Mon achat a été guidé uniquement pour trancher du pain. Testée dès sa réception sur un pain d'une épaisseur de 15 cm, cette petite trancheuse manuelle a assuré le job de façon très satisfaisante. Sa lame dentée possède un tranchant redoutable. A ce propos, c'est la seule trancheuse manuelle de cette gamme-là qui possède une lame de 19 cm ; toutes les autres ont des lames de 17 cm voire moins. Les ventouses maintiennent fermement la machine en place durant le tranchage. Elles sont efficaces même sur un plan de travail en bois. Bref, pour ce qui est d'obtenir aisément des tranches de pain d'une épaisseur régulière sans effort et surtout sans devoir passer par la fée électricité, cette trancheuse manuelle est vraiment l'outil parfait. Enfin, en cas de problèmes survenant au fil du temps, vous pouvez vous procurer des pièces de rechange (lames, ventouses...) sur le site internet de la firme GRAEF, ce qui n'est pas toujours le cas avec d'autres marques. Petit bémol cependant : certains commentaires font état que lors du tranchage, les tranches de pain viennent s'empêtrer dans la manivelle. Ce qui est vrai. Personnellement, j'ai remédié à ce problème en ajoutant un guide à la machine (voir photos). Ce guide ne m'a pas coûté un franc. Il est réalisé à l'aide d'un vieux cintre à vêtements en acier inoxydable d'une épaisseur de 2 mm. Cette ferraille est enchassée dans une plaque de bois collée sur la machine. Cette plaque est fixée à l'aide d'un papier collant (extrêmement collant) double face. On peut également apercevoir sur les photos un petit plancher en bois qui permet de recevoir la tranche coupée avant qu'elle ne tombe au pied de la machine. C'est loin d'être ésthétique, j'en conviens, mais c'est super efficace et je regrette que les concepteurs de cette petite merveille à trancher le pain n'y aient pas eux-mêmes pensé. A part ça, je vous invite à vous procurer cette trancheuse plus que toute autre, sans hésitation.
