Is this the model with the ESS chip?

For others as of now the unit ships with ESS's ES9028Q2M chip only. Extensive testing in audiosciencereview shows minute performance differences. None audible.

Is this going to be better sound than a Chord Mojo 2?

"Better" is way too subjective a measure to provide a meaningful answer. What you like is not the same as what I, or anyone else, may like. The ADI-2 can best be described as a device that will reproduce what is recorded at the level of quality of the base material. If the original recording is bad, the ADI-2 will sound bad, if it is good, the ADI-2 will reflect that as well. It does not tend to influence the material, just lets it be what it is. The advantage of the ADI-2 is that is has some DSP. There is a really neat loudness function for listening to low volumes and a parametric equalizer to help with room correction, or to make up for a deficiency in speaker ability. It has 3 digital inputs and can be used as a preamplifier. There is also a headphone and IEM amplifier with some nice DSP functionality. Does the ADI-2 sound better than the Chord 2? I don't know. What I do know is that it will reproduce what it is fed without coloration, unless you need it to. It is way more than just a DAC. Very, very, good value for the money.
