are these candies vegan and gluten free?

They are gluten free but not vegan. They contain confectoiner's glaze, which is made from shellac, a resin secreted from a bug. They also contain Carnauba Wax, which is sometimes made with stearic acid, which can be derived from either plant or animal sources A full ingredient list is: Dextrose, Calcium Stearate, Tapioca Dextrin, Confectioner's Glaze, Carnauba Wax, Artificial Flavor, Artificial Color (FD&C Yellow 5)

Do they taste like the banana runt candies?

Similar taste but they are different than Runts brand banana candies. Definitely not Runts! These have a good banana flavor, smaller than the Runts bananas, but easier to bite and are a little softer (easier on the teeth!).

There is a very thin layer of Confectoiner's Glaze on this product, which is derived from a secretion from a beetle. There is also a small amount of Carnauba Wax, which can be made with stearic acid, which can be either meat or vegetable based. As far as I can tell the glaze is kosher for the same reasons honey is, and either way they're both considered "batel", ie: in small enough proportions to still be considered kosher
