Actually it was my gynecologist that told me to take this for hair loss. **Q: What does it mean power 25% extract** A: You can never be 100% sure about the wording on these labels, but my guess is the 500 mg of saw palmetto per capsule breaks down this way: 25% (or 125 mg) is in the form of an extract, while the remaining 375 mg is powder. **Q: Because it has rice powder and gelatin, how many carbs per serving?** A: If it's not on the label, I couldn't be sure. On the other hand, if the contents of the capsule were only rice powder, each capsule might hold 1/4 teaspoon or less, so carbs would be negligible. I eat more during my regular meals (lunch/dinner) to prevent snacking; but occasionally I'll have a snack after dinner (protein or fruit). I still eat ice cream every couple of days (my nemesis but trying to cut down and switching to greek yogurt ice cream bars) and the occasional chips (1-2 small bags/week). My overall junk snacking is about 5% of my diet now. From the diet change alone, I've noticed my hair growing back and the color is muuuch more vibrant (also less new grey hair) but I was still losing the same amount of hair. What gives?! :( So I decided to finally try saw palmetto. I've been using this item for about 2.5 weeks and so far it looks like it's working--approximately 30% improvement during the 2nd week alone! I don't see as much hair loss after I shampoo; there is still a lot but not like before. I didn't change my diet but did eat more junk food than usual (ugh, menstrual cycle). I'm hoping there will be significant improvement after a few months of usage. I'll update again in a few months. So far no side effects.
