For me, it's very warm, and yet keeps you cool as well. I'm always cold, and generally wear a hooded sweatshirt under my jacket. With this one, I've not needed one. We'll see when we get some sub-freezing temperatures again, as I'm in California, and the lows have been mostly mid to higher 30s lately in my area. I'm pretty sure it will be fine as the bottom stays snug against you, keeping the drafts out. The sleeves do as well, and I love that the canvas extends below the cuff, hiding it. The hood is nice and large, drawstring will tighten it to the point it looks like a ski mask, and when zipped up fully, the neckline is nice and snug. Ample pocket space, but can't use the outer pockets for a cellphone without it standing, risking it falling out. Inside pockets are zippered on the left and velcro patch in middle of right. Left can close with my s24+ inside, but in right pocket, it fits, but blocks the velcro. Small details in my opinion, but may matter to some. As for the zipper, it's metal(looks like brass), and feels like it's robust enough that it will last the life of the jacket.
