Die cut pages bring surprise after surprise in this magical new book from the "Queen of the concept book"โan intricate and satisfying homage to green, the color of all creation. How many kinds of green are there? There's the lush green of a forest on a late spring day, the fresh, juicy green of a just-cut lime, the incandescent green of a firefly, and the vivid aquamarine of a tropical sea. In her newest book, Caldecott and Geisel Honor Book author Laura Vaccaro Seeger fashions an homage to a single color and, in doing so, creates a book that will delight and, quite possibly astonish you. Wonderful Book!
I bought this book for my youngest grandchild. Before he even saw it, my oldest granddaughter fell in love with it. She has been captivated by Green from the first moment she opened it. She has read it many times, and loves to read it to Buck, who also loves it. Each page has delicate cutouts that transform the page and which then transform the next page in an entirely different way. I can well see why it is a Caldecott Award winner. In fact, this gives me a new appreciation for the judges of the Caldecott Awards! My grandchildren range in age from 11 to 2, with another due in a month. I love having a book in my house that entertains all of them, no matter their age. Well done, Laura Vaccaro Seeger! Well done!

Recommended read aloud preK-2 students
LOVE THIS BOOK!!!! Seeger's text and illustrations require students to slow down and look closely and think. Each two-page spread in green, a 2012 Caldecott Honor Book, is dedicated to one particular shade of green. I finished this book and then read it again immediately, slowing myself down, savoring each page and thinking through the difference between the shades of green that Seeger features. Most of the shades are revealed through a nonfiction topic - forest green, sea green, lime green, pea green. There are few off beat greens - a "wacky green" with a green striped zebra; these do not deter from her message that there are a lot of different shades of green in our world. Instead "wacky green" expands our understanding of the presence of shades of green beyond the natural world to the creative, imaginary world. There are so many teaching possibilities here. I've shared my thinking about this in my blog - [...].

Simple Book with Lovely Illustrations
We bought this book on a whim since our son loves everything "green". Plus, anything with a Caldecott Medal deserves attention. The book is illustration-driven, as there are no more than two or three words per page. Regardless of the lack of "story", we generate a lot of discussion each time we read it regarding the pictures. Truly a beautiful book that deserves to be added to your collection.

Green galore.
Seeger never ceases to amaze me with her creativity and skill. Here is another deceptively simple yet fascinating look at the world around us. Seeger shows us the beauty and versatility of the color green. Each die cut changes form on the next page. For example, the book starts by showing a forest with two die cut leaves. When you flip the page, the die cuts have become fish. The kindergartners I shared this with were fascinated by the way the shapes stayed the same but became something else, through the changes in color and location. A delight from beginning to end.

Great picture book, not a story book
The first time I read this book, I was really disappointed. It's just two words per page describing the green scenes. Upon subsequent reads, I have really come to appreciate the art and engineering work. My four year old will read this, but my two year old is the one who really enjoys it. He finds the details in the pictures- he really looks at the pages. This is a great picture book, so I recommend it if that's what you're looking for. It's not a story book.
