Ok listen...I'm not the leave a review person but I rely heavily on reviews and so I'm working on that but THIS deserves a review to maybe help someone! I moved to the mountains and all that we have is well water. I have only ever used city water and was not aware that my hair would suffer from the hard well water. Well it did. It's horrible. It's dry and breaking and dull and frizzy. It's only been 1 year and I've tried hard water softener shower heads and we have a soft water system but it only lasts like a month. We are looking into an expensive system but for right now that isn't going to fix my hair and we arnt there yet. I looked up this shampoo and some others and on a whim got this just to try it first and if it didn't help I was going to go through them all until I found something that worked. I got the shampoo and conditioner and HOLY GRAIL! I washed my hair ONE TIME. One time and this has changed my entire life! I am seriously impressed. I was ready to just accept the fact that I will go bald. All of the people that I have met have told me that my hair will get used to the water but I'm not there with the water yet. Me and the water have not become one in terms of my hair. But this shampoo makes my hair feel squeaky clean, it's heavy and moisturized and no longer dry, it's shiny and my natural color is so vibrant- and all after one wash. One! My hair was long and dark and healthy and now it's short, uneven and brittle and dry. This shampoo had turned my whole world around. It's been a week. I can't say anything about long term yet but the noticeable difference is IN-SANE! I'm not easily impressed by things but this shampoo right here is worth every penny and every review. And the conditioner as well. Without throwing anyone under any busses; I used to use an MLM brand that starts with an M and I LOVED it and what it did to my hair. I cannot afford that right now so the Ion brand making my hair feel the same way as that MLM brand makes me extremely happy. And I love the other shampoo still, but this one is worth it if you are struggling with hard water and severely damaged hair. It's literally my hair life saver right now. We will see now if my hair will come back to life fully and grow long and beautiful but for now if you are looking for something that will help your hair detox then this is it! Buy it! You will not be disappointed. I can actually run my fingers through my hair and it's not breaking. It lays and stays flat when I sleep. It doesn't frizz up and my dark hair is shiny and looks like I dyed my hair. I love love love this outcome! Chefs kiss to this brand for saving the day and my hair. Absolutely impressed! And it smells good. Doesn't leave a sticky residue. Doesn't take a lot just like a nickel to quarter size amount. And always remember to wash twice esp if you use products in your hair. I use a clay wash on my hair and use this shampoo once a month to clarify it. This leaves them squeaky clean and soft. It is gentle enough to not strip the hair but also cleans well. I do oil my hair before washing so if you don’t you might want to wash with it once. I wash twice on my monthly clarifying wash day .

it seems to have cut down on the amount of 'flakes' I find and my head is not as itchy overall my moisture balance is still off, but I'm sure it will stabilize after all the excess minerals come out overall pleased - best part is that he has no scent at all and I am super sensitive to added fragrances so I'm grateful for that!

I live in one of the top 5 cities in the U.S. with hard water. I grew up in the southeast near a pure water basin so I've never experienced anything like this until I moved for work. Ive been a curly natural no heat for 4 years. Background: When I first moved to this new (hard water) city I could tell the difference immediately. Detangling my hair became extremely difficult, I thought it was my diet or products or just hormones even but my hair felt hard and would clump together even though I'd just detangled it literally seconds ago. Its like it wouldn't stay detangled....My shedding doubled when I moved to this new city as well. I did all sorts of hair treatment to no avail. Other Type 4 naturals i came across experienced the same problems i had. I got a shower filter, it helped a tad but not significantly. I switched brushes, combs, shampoos, nothing worked. I found myself detangling 4x during a weekly wash day (when normally I only detangled twice) because my hair would matte and lock together after each process even conditioning. And my scalp was very itchy. I finally succumbed and resorted to washed my hair in 4 braids but I still experienced alot of shedding and tangling. My hair was coming out from the roots not much breakage but still more than normal. And my hair lacked curl definition and was more frizzy. I visited a different state and my hair was detangling like butter there which is how I realized it was the water. Review: After 3 years of washing with hard water, I finally caved and decided to try Distilled/bottled water with this particular shampoo. I figured theres no point in me using this in hard water itd likely be counterproductive. I noticed a difference after the first wash. My hair was softer and I could finally tell the difference between my natural and dyed hair. And each shampoo theres less shedding than last time. Ive used it alternating with selsun blue every other week. Ive done 2 washes with this so far. I colored my hair 2 years ago and the shampoo did rinse out reddish brown so thats a concern. My natural hair is less tangled now but via the pics the dyed portion still locks together somewhat. Im hoping after a couple more washes that won't be a thing anymore. Before I switched to this routine the entire length of my hair felt the same so I suppose its still a good sign. But now im slightly worried about my old color treated ends. I suppose the hardwater was protecting the color somewhat. Not sure Routine: I wash weekly (because Type 4 hair doesn't get very oily in fact we use oil). I take my bottled or distilled water and heat it up in a pot. I fill 2 - 1.5 liter jugs with the warm water and place it in my bathroom. I shampoo outside of my shower with a spray bottle filled with distilled water. I section in 4, spray with water/detangle, shampoo, clip up, and then hop in the shower an rinse with the 2 jugs of warm water. If im up to it ill deep condition and warm up a third jug of water. Tip: Get a squeeze bottle like they use for post partum birth and pour warm water in there in order to rinse each section and scalp better. I use equivalent to 1-2 cases of standard 24 pack of water a month. Or 3 gallons of distilled water. Skin Tip: I also now wash my face with pure water and mix the shampoo with my face wash. My face broke out really bad when I moved here so its a 2 birds with 1 stone. Its cleared up ALOT after using Caress Daily Bar soap YES BAR SOAP! After spending $500 on dermatology prescriptions. My weird adult acne is nearly gone and my hair is restored. Thanks to this shampoo, distilled water, and bar soap.

I grew up at a house with whole home filtration because we had a well for our water source. Never really complained about my hair until I went away to college, and it started to get frizzy, dry, and dull. My stylist said it was likely the change to hard water that my hair had never repeatedly been exposed to and recommended this since I was on a budget and could pick it up nearby at Sally’s. This is by far the best treatment shampoo I have ever used despite changes in my hair between now and then (hormonal changes have made my hair full on curly now!) I have moved to places with all kinds of different hard water and this does the trick every time. I even used it when i had a shower filter for a bit to really get off product buildup. For the price, you can’t beat it, and I like it way more than more expensive “clarifying” treatments. It’s sulfate free but uses C14-16 olein sulfonate so you’ll get a nice lather without your hair turning to straw. I can usually get away with using like a palmful of this for my mid back length medium strand curly hair every 3-6 washes to clarify both hard water and product off my hair. I usually lather for several minutes and sometimes use a scalp scrubber brush gently as well, and then let it sit so it’s on my hair for a total of 5 min because it does do a chemical reaction (chelation) to dissolve away mineral buildup. I follow up with extra conditioner and leave in conditioner after and my hair is so voluminous and shiny and feels like I just left a salon. My curls spring right up too. It’s truly a life saver for both hard water and product buildup. I can’t speak to safety for colored hair as I have never colored mine, but the sulfate free should be gentle on it. Bottom line, if you feel like you do a lot to your hair and it still sucks and you don’t have a shower filter and/or use a lot of product, try this.

I’ve been really impressed with this shampoo. The light scent is pleasant without being overwhelming, and the formula itself has made a noticeable difference in my hair. I have extremely hard well water, which was leaving my scalp dry and itchy while somehow making it oilier than normal. Since switching to this shampoo, my scalp finally feels balanced again. My hair is softer, more manageable, and it never feels stripped—just clean and nourished. If you deal with hard water buildup, this has been a game changer for me.

Amazing shampoo. Smells great and made my hair feel soft and clean despite my apartment's old pipes after one wash. Docking two stars just because I wouldn't recommend ordering through Amazon and plan to buy this product somewhere else in the future. It arrived having leaked all over itself and the bag it was in, meaning I both lost some product and had to clean sticky off the bottle

I don’t usually write anything on this but… WOW. My hair was all brittle and dry and breaking after I moved from my mom’s house to my house… I thought it was heat damage or just that it was dry, I used a lot of good and expensive masks and nothing helped UNTIL I bought this shampoo… I just washed my Afro hair and all my curls were popping, the hair is super soft and the “dead ends” I thought I had were actually hair that had a lot of hard water things on it. I love this shampoo and will definitely add it to my routine on a monthly basis. Just as advice, I used an oil prepoo before washing my hair as it looked really dry and I didn’t want it to be really damaged by a harsh shampoo and just wanted to solve the hard water issues and IT WORKED. PS. My hair is Afro, 4a/4b, medium to high density.

We have hard water and soon after our water softener stopped working, we found our hair always looked greasy and felt heavy, even after we had just showered. It was impossible to style it and it just never looked right. This shampoo has worked wonders on our hair. It removes all the hard water residue and leaves your hair feeling like you just left the salon. Definitely give it a try if you have hard water.

Doesn’t work

I recently moved to Kitchener, ON, and the water here is very hard (+17 gpg). When I tried to wash my hair, it tangled immensely, became brittle, and was falling off for the last couple of weeks. We changed our water softener and installed a shower filter but nothing worked. last week I bought this shampoo and when I tried it for the first time, my hair became so soft and manageable again. The hair falling has also stopped. Completely worth the money. Gonna buy it again.
