Because of the misuse of improper footwear in a apocalyptic society gone awry. The amount of gangrene that the two players should have died from due to not taking the time to show proper footwear usage and choices is just appalling. The ESRB saw this and thought about how many kids could be influenced by this game and wear wrong shoes and die an early age so they slapped an M on it. Oh and the violence, blood and cursing as well attributed to the M.

I don't really know how to answer your question other than it's an awesome zombie game with a great storyline.  I looked up the list of best PS3 games and "The Last of Us" was like number 5, 1 being the best and the list was like 50 games long if that tells you something.  Just buy it.  I don't buy into the whole buying the new game console or cell as soon as it comes out thing until I have to like when the iPhone 3g no longer could get internet cuz the IOS changed.  Plus with the PS4 I don't want to have to re buy all my games, I'll wait till they stop making games for PS3 and I run out of new to me games to play then at that time I'll buy a PS4 plus it will have come down in cost a lot by then as well.  So I can't really tell you anything about anything PS4 related other than unlike when the PS3 came out there was a version of the console where you could still play PS2 games on it, the PS4 doesn't have that and I think that's stupid and that they are just trying to get more money out of people.  But the other guy who answered said the game will be released on PS4 this year so if you are one of those people who just have to always have the newest thing out all the time then there you go.
