- Sharp Pebble Flattening Stone - Dual Grit 120/320 Whetstone Flattener

This thing is an absolute beast! I had a few pucks that I use to sharpen my throwing axes that were so deep in the middle but this flattening stone got them looking brand new! I was shocked to be honest at how well it worked! A little elbow grease and you will have all your stones perfectly flat again!! I’m working on my knife blocks next! I’m very excited about making these new again instead of buying a new sharpener kit! Worth every penny and I’m thinking of getting one to put in my camping gear. A must buy for those who use whetstones like me. That puck on the left was in terrible shape and I was thinking of tossing it. It’s a little wet in the middle right now but I promise it’s as flat as it was when I first used it!

After 2+ decades of flattening my stones the way Bob taught me from that Old House show. Sand paper attached to a flat block of hardwood. I decided to give one of these a shot. I'm glad I did. Soooo much easier. 1st off you can do it at the sink. 2nd you can soak your stones. 3rd no changing sand paper. 4th no sand in your stones. 5th easier to clean up. 6th much faster overall in every aspect. 7th easier to see your progress, provided you rinse your stones as you go. 8th It just works better. The instructions say if you use wet stones to get them wet and use the fine grit side. I would say, soak your stone and do it at the sink so you can rinse them and the block as you go. Starting with the fine side is all good and fine but if one of your stones is really cupped just use the course side. You will make a wet muddy mess. I highly suggest you have hand towels at the ready. Wifey was eyeballing me pretty hard while I was making a mess. I kept a hand towel at the edge of the counter to prevent it from dripping on the floor and wiped up the muddy water as I went. If you are doing more than one stone I suggest you do the same. It's pretty easy to see if it's flat. If you have a dirty spot on the stone, you air done yet (see pics). It should look nice and fresh when your done. With that said, I won't ever go back to the Bob way. Take my advice and buy one.

I recently bought the Flattening Stone from Sharp Pebble after having been very impressed with their other products. I used the FS on a small waterstone and was very happy with the results, it cleaned it up very quickly. That said, I was surprised to see that the FS has been worn down significantly. I had planned on using it on many of my older stones but realized it would be gone in no time if it wore in the manner it did with the first stone. I contacted Salma at Sharp Pebble with my concerns and she was very helpful. She explained that the FS I received must have been defective and replaced it with a new stone. The new FS arrives and worked perfectly with almost no visible wear. I would give the new FS 5 stars but because of the issues with the first stone, I’m staying at 4 stars. Sharp Pebble is awesome.

Having read some negative reviews about this product concerning quality--particularly its flatness, which is critical for its ability to flatten sharpening stones, I was worried that I had made a purchase mistake that I would regret. I can attest that this stone is dead flat on both of the two cutting srfaces, because I tested it on my granite surface plate this morning before using it. I feel as though I got a bargain compared to my other flattening tools, and am very happy with its performance on my expensive Shapton waterstones.

Quality product.

This flattening stone can true up whetstones but takes far too long to level uneven sharpening surfaces. Its abrasive material wears down noticeably after only a few regular uses, requiring extra effort to get stones flat. Not durable enough for frequent knife sharpening work and fails to meet my expectation on lifespan.

Smoothed my worn stones perfectly and easily. I had some expensive stones that had been used quite extensively. They had become uneven due to using some areas more than others, as well as some moderate gorges. Placed the stones under running water while running the flattening stone over the surface. I was able to even out the surfaces and smooth out the gorges with minimal effort. I do recommend using them under a VERY light flow of running water. This allows them to slide easily but also lets a light slurry build up which I found makes the process go faster.

I used it to flatten 1200, 4000 and 8000 g. Stones. Works great, the stone is flat and was delivered without any defects. Good size !
