Does this pole float?

initially - but left in the water long enough (several minutes), the tube will begin to fill with water

Can i use this hook to pull up my ladder on my pontoon boat? i can't reach down to pull the ladder up.

We gave this to our son cor his pontoon boat and h pulls his boat to the dock so don't know why you couldn't use it to pull your ladder up, has a hook on the end.

What's the width will dock wand fit on it?

Hi. I'm not sure what the 'Dock Wand' is? There are various models, mine is a 3 section, standard vs premium version. The Amazon pic actually under-represents the nice gripping width/diameter of this 'hook'. Very nice product and I'm glad we got the extra reach. I will exactly measure the part for the 'Dock Wand' for you but don't know what/where that is. Ken

Does the locking mechanism need to be lubricated? e.g. WD-40 in saltwater environment

If you are using this in a salt water environment make sure you rinse it off with fresh water every time you use it before you stow it!!!!!! Salt and Aluminum!!!! WD 40 is a water displacement compound not a Lubricant!!!!!! And it will not remove the salt! Not sure I would squirt oil inside the mechanism. Might not hold like you would like. But everyone of these Aluminum boat hooks fail from accumulation of salt and Aluminum oxidation!
