Varathane 250281 Water-Based Ultimate Spar Urethane Spray, 11.25 oz, Satin

I had made a series of plywood characters to put in the yard for the holiday season. After carefully priming and painting the surfaces, I planned to brush on Rustoleum Varathane Water-Based Ultimate Spar Urethane from a quart container to seal the cutouts. Imagine my horror when the urethane-dipped brush SMEARED my paint! It was only the black paint, too, which was so odd. To resolve this issue, I bought a spray can of the same product and used it as a base coat first, then I continued with brushing on the urethane without any issues. I did one coat of the spray, then two additional coats brushed on. I could have used only the spray can for all the coats, but I had already invested in the quart container. And if I was spraying on, I probably would have done four coats total. The satin finish is excellent for the outdoor plywood cutouts - note that a matte finish usually looks hazy, and glossy might be too bling for you lol.

Worked great for my patio project. Arrived undamaged and on time. I recommend.

I usse this on my art projects.

The spray is very coarse and leaves droplets on the surface. These droplets do not flow or level, so the dry coating is spotty. From the first use I could see the spray was not a fine mist as soon as it came out of the can. The nozzle itself appears to be fine. The can was well agitated before use. I am experienced in using spray coatings. Very disappointed as Amazon does not allow this product to be returned even though it arrived only yesterday.

Used this on Christmas wood decor that I wanted to put outside. Very easy to use. Goes on milky like finish first, then dries to a nice finish. Repels moisture and keeps objects from fading. I purchased another can again today.

It sprayed out quite foamy so there was a lot of waste. Maybe it was just this particular can but I won’t be ordering this brand again.

I make custom coir welcome mats w/ outdoor acrylic paint and use this to seal them. This works great because it seals without making the mats crunchy. But if you use it for mats like I do, you'll need at least 4 layers of this if the mat gets used a lot.

I use this on all of my outdoor garden decorations. It beautifies all of it and protects from the elements! I highly recommend this product.
