This Actually Works!
I have to say, I was ready to send this product back ($70 for some wool?!), but I'm so glad I ordered it! It took about five minutes to correctly install in my unused chimney, which has been sending cold air down into the family room for years. The downdrafts have been eliminated completely—so much so that I actually uttered an expression of surprise (that Amazon won't print, so I won't repeat) when I ran my hand along the edges to feel for any cold air. Highly recommended! (I did have to do some additional sealing in the two of the corners, which I did by cutting up an old cotton mop pad; perhaps the company could include a few extra pieces of wool in the package?)

Great quality and effective solution to smell and energy loss. Worth the price.
Not the cheapest solution, but I believe that this will last a really long time. It absolutely has blocked all the smells that were coming back into the house when the weather outside got warmer. The energy savings will be a bonus. It fits perfectly without the need for trimming. Make sure you size it up from your opening. I am looking forward to using my fireplace again next year without the dread of dealing with the nasty smells.

Effective though expensive
We started to get “fireplace smell” in our family room when using the exhaust fan in the kitchen and when the air conditioning started running (and pulling air through the returns). We had a traditional damper that was of course not airtight at all, and started to look for a solution. This product seemed easiest to use and most sensible versus the balloon type plugs. It did require removing the metal door damper and replacing it with this. Initially, the results were not great — it was only a little better and we were still getting smell. So I called their customer service and the person there was genuinely helpful. Had me send a photo of my situation, and he advised me on a way to sort of cross tuck the corners (difficult to explain) in a way that it greatly tightens the fit of the blocker. That seemed to help, because after that there has been a significant reduction in the smell (though not full elimination). That said, I agree with some of the other reviews - for what this essentially is (i.e., a thick piece of wool), it’s rather overpriced. However, for whatever reason, there seems to be only 1 manufacturer/distributor of this product so they’ve got the market cornered.

keeps the heat in!
Standing next to my fireplace I could feel a draft. I checked around on line and came across this. I did call the company to talk to them about what size would be best and would something like this work on my fireplace. Customer service was great. Mr. Raddenbach got back to me within the hour. I emailed a picture of what I had. (you can see by the photo looking up my chimney.) We decided on a 8x32 Flueblocker. It arrived earlier than it said it would. I took a picture with a thermal camera before I placed it in to get an idea of what was going on. (you can see by the photo the chimney is cold, purple shows cold, inside and out. (( yellow orange are warmer temps.)) Yes it was Christmas time when I did the first photo, so there is a couple of Christmas decorations around it. When I received the Flueblocker I inserted the pad through the damper frame and pull it back to make a seal. I figured I would give it 2 days to make sure its working. (also gave me a chance to start taking down my Christmas decorations.) As you can see by the other photo the fireplace it warmer, a lot more yellow and orange. The draft I felt to start all this was gone. My fireplace is not used for burning anything right now. When the time comes that I use it to burn wood I will remove the blocked. This Flueblocker is great, 10 seconds and down. Mine came with 2 screw in poles to help with making the seal. When down unscrew the poles and place aside for when every you wish to take it out and use your fireplace..

If you get fireplace smell in the house, this works really well
I had to have the bottom damper removed from my old fireplace, as it was broken and blocking the chimney. If you've never had a bottom damper, you don't understand that with it, your home is odor-free. Without one, your home smells like creosote. It's gross. This, however, works perfectly. It closes the chimney, saving heat when I'm not using it, and my house doesn't smell like burning. Worth the money if its driving you crazy. The only time I do smell it is if I have the extractor over the stove on. It's a powerful fan that blows to the outside, so it will draw a little smell since it's across from the fireplace. Once it's off, the smell dissipates.

It blocks the flue
It blocks the flue and I have no doubt it will last. The sizing was great—I didn’t have to trim it and it is secure.

Don’t waste your money on this.
Don’t waste your money on this. When I first got it, I thought it was going to be a good air blocker. Over time, it falls down and will not stay up. The fabric becomes flimsy and won’t hold its shape. Now it’s useless. I did measure and get the right size.

Great product, big difference in drafts and better than that balloon product competitor
Great product, big difference in drafts and better than that balloon product (competitor) - more efficient and less issues. Easy to install, notice a difference right after installation and it's an install and forget product. No need to check in unless you use your fireplace. If you do, be sure to remove it and install it back again which is easy.
