LG Electronics 4986ER0004F Washing Machine Door Boot Gasket with Drain Port

The item was well packaged, shipped timely and installed with some effort. The actual part removal took the time as a great portion of the machine had to be taken apart before the new gasket could be put on. This is a common failure point for a front loading washer and unfortunately the fix is not permanent. That is the fault of the manufacturer and not the replacement part seller. It was the perfect fit and a great value for the money as compared to the LG website and their part stock. I would buy from them again.

Worked great! Our washer is 15-years old and even though we frequently cleaned the door seal and soaked up any residual water inside the bottom lip, after each wash, it eventually needed to be replaced. There are really good YouTube videos on how to replace this seal, with the front cover on or off. I opted to remove the front cover, which really simplified the job. Also it allowed me to clean and inspect the innards. I also removed and cleaned the elbow, which connects to the door seal. Although that step wasn’t covered in the Y-T videos, I would HIGHLY recommend cleaning it, as it was the cause of a foul smell in our washer, it also restricted draining, which also caused smells. I also opted for the spring removal/installation tool, which really simplified the installation. Its as good as new again.

The door gasket works well. It has been installed for more than a month without a leak. The problem really is with the design of the washer. I had to remove the front and the top of the washer to make this repair. The root cause of my problem (gasket getting moldy because it wasn't draining right) was a bad drain design. It appears to be a custom molded hose with two 90 degree bends in a little over 1 inch of length. It takes almost nothing for lint to build up in there and block it. As for assembly, the custom spring tool offered (at twice the price of the gasket) would have been nice, but I'm pretty handy with zip ties and I made it work.

My washer would leak from time to time, mostly on tub clean mode. I would come back to a big pool of water on the ground. It's on cement in the basement so it was no big deal really. I finally got curious and found a big tear in the gasket. After seeing the reviews on here and videos online of the replacement it seemed easy enough. I was actually shocked how easy it is to take apart the washer. One bonus of doing this is you can take apart the detergent dispenser and hoses and clean all the gunk inside. You will be shocked how much mildew and gunk is in there. After cleaning everything I could easily get to, I started the gasket. I will say it’s sort of confusing how it installs, I would recommend watching the replacement videos of this before starting, and then watch it while installing step-by-step. As other have said the rings that lock the gasket in the place are a PAIN to get in, that being said I watched the video and saw how he did it, and after a couple of tries it was in. You will need vice grips. Also the inner ring-spring, it easier to pull up on the spring then down. The door doesn’t shut as smoothly but it’s hardly noticeable. It might even be better. I would buy the same thing again if I had too. I just ran the tub-wash and no leaking.

Great fit

Fantastic find at a significant discount from other online retailers. This fit my LG WM2250CW front loader perfectly. This was not immediately clear from reading the description but this part does fit my model. Appears to be a genuine LG factory part. Look at other amazon reviews and YouTube for great tutorials on installing this part yourself at a significant savings. Specifically, look up the Amazon reviews on the spring expansion tool for great ideas on how to get those troublesome springs on/off. Took me a couple tries but I got this installed without much issue and I'm not very handy at all. I'd allow a half day to get this installed from start to finish if you're uninterrupted and slow like me. I replaced mine due to the common mold problem in these front loaders. Now using Affresh cleaner on a monthly basis (apparently better than bleach) and will regularly check the drain at the bottom of the boot seal to see if it has become clogged. When I installed I cleaned out this drain and it was completely blocked with lint and hair after 2.5 years of use. This was most likely the cause of the mildew/mold growth as we regularly cleaned the washer and left the door open after each use.
