Borderlands 3 (PS4)

Good game love it

Played Borderlands 2 on PS3 and this game does have improved graphics, but not outstanding. I love playing this game because of the baddies who are more fun and clearer than Borderlands 2, probably because they are higher resolution. Actual play is smooth and responsive but loading is tedious, especially the initial load and, although slightly improved, when changing area locations. Side challenges are great with some good puzzles. Ratio of game play to purchase cost probably the best so far. The allied characters are not as good as Borderlands 2 and are a bit of a pain during game play. And.. the PS4 struggles when loading the game and scenes, taking around 5 minutes to be up and playing but this is a PS4 problem. So good value, a fun product and hours, no weeks, of fun.

I'm a huge borderlands fan, but waited until now to get this for PS4 (base model) due to mixed reviews about frame rate and stability. I can confirm that single player is stable at 30fps, very few dips. Split screen is a bit rough at times with noticeable drops and hitches - but still playable after many hotfixes from 2K. Oh, and vertical split screen is officially a thing now, so that's a plus. It was missing at launch. What is annoying is the lack of UI scaling, especially in split screen - some text and UI promps are absolutely tiny! You get used to it, but seriously - I'm struggling on a 55" TV from average distance. Witcher 3 added this in after launch, I hope 2K will too. Some texture streaming issues show up every now and then, but this is endemic to unreal engine games so not too surprising, especially on PS4 with its slow hdd. Ps5 is much better apparently. On to my opinion - it's borderlands but MOAR. Everything is turned up to eleven on this one, so if you liked that aspect of BL1 and BL2, you will like this. Its loud, brash, stupid and fun. Great builds to be had with tons of customisation, and you can easily re-spec your character with very little cost, something missing from other rpgs. I'm calling it an rpg because its got rpg elements in it, so rpg/lite? Fun story, cool guns - it's very much rinse and repeat from 2K, with shiny graphics and bigger environments. Only downside is that because it's a 2K game, there are lots of DLC ads in the menus and annoyingly - even in game. They're even set up to look like new missions on the HUD - so deceptive in my opinion. The worst one is right next to a fast travel point on sanctuary, so the message goes off EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU FAST TRAVEL BACK. oof. Approach with this in mind and I'm sure you will have fun. Its not too grindy, even in the early game which is nice. Things really get going at around lvl11 where class mods come in. Better weapons also start to drop around this time too. Overall, good but 2K could do better (and did with previous games).

One of the few games my wife and I play together as it is local co-op. Smashed the campaign in just over a week. Story was a bit naff but can't really fault the gameplay. 2 still is my fave though, for now.

Awesome game. Great action, guns, lots of guns. Love IT!! loving the 1 player mode - i'm old school

If you have a disc based PS5, you get the PS5 enhanced upgrade for free which is great. Plays well and is really good value if you get it on sale like I did.

Hours and hours of fun for everyone ..and cheap as chips...if chips were still cheap lol

The reason why I'm giving this game 5 stars is based on a few reasons on my own, as well as sharing my thoughts on what little I knew about the game before buying it... First just to get this out of the way; I will say that the Gameplay in Borderlands 3 is ridiculously loads of fun! I honestly had a heck of a lot of fun with the guns and grenades I played around with. And the skill tree from the Four Vault Hunters (I mained as FL4K, the Beastmaster) are especially fun to play around with as the Skill Tree mechanic in BL3 has been enhanced with allowing the player to equip more than 1 skill. Makes it very interesting to combine skills from other trees. The Side Missions and Echo Logs were very well written and were fun to listen/engage to. They were definitely my favorite part of the game! Oh! And for those who played The Pre-Sequel, the interactive voice lines of whichever character you picked to play as is back! Definitely allows some immersion from the game! Now with that out of the way, I have to mention the story and how abysmal it was handled this time around. It was one of the minor things I knew about sometime after hearing about the game's launch on release date. The story, unfortunately, does not deliver. And according to what I found, there were different (albeit not very experienced) writers behind this game which explains the underwhelming writing performance. While the story sets up a rather very intriguing premise as well as focusing heavily on the Siren Lore and giving us a compelling concept with The Calypso Twins, Troy especially, a good chunk of the story has no payoffs, too many plot-holes, a lot of things not making a lick of sense, unanswered questions, little-to-no likeable characters that are constantly being introduced, villains with incredibly weak motives (and I personally find that the Twins had no good reason for how they turned out the way they did but this is debatable), the Vault Hunters from BL2 are shafted tremendously and are not involved with the exception of Maya & Zer0, an unsatisfying ending, etc... The list just goes on and its disappointing, to say the least. One of the biggest issues I had with the game personally throughout the Main Campaign was the lack of immersion from the cutscenes. As in, despite you, The Vault Hunter is doing all of the work, as soon as a cutscene starts you're either no where to be found or your existence isn't acknowledged at all. To the point the credit completely goes to characters who weren't even involved in the fight that you yourself was already taking on. There's only one cutscene that I can recall throughout the entire game where your Vault Hunter is for once acknowledged. But that was the one and only time it ever happens. Borderlands 3 strengths itself on its tremendously fun gameplay, side missions and echo logs. But because of how abysmal the Story Campaign was, it makes it hard to give it another playthrough on other characters. Especially on True Vault Hunter Mode. I bought this game knowing little about how bad the story was going to be but I wanted to play it myself after having the PS4 for sometime. And the only reason why I bought this version instead of the Deluxe was because if the story was as bad as others claimed, then I saw no point in playing the addtional content if I'm just going to drop the game completely after finishing the Main Campaign. Which... is what happened as soon as I was done. I feel no desire to continue playing on another character. And I certainly have no desire to do another run on the Story Campaign. So, despite what I stated above, the game is worth it in terms of its fun gameplay. But beware that due to its abymsal Story Campaign, it may be difficult to give it another playthrough on any other Vault Hunters you've yet to play as. Edit: Something I forgot to add and mention; for anyone who played Tales From The Borderlands, do not expect Borderlands 3 to give you the answer on what was found inside the Vault at the end of the game. And as disappointing as this sounds, Fiona and Sasha are not present within the Main Campaign of BL3. There's only a small subtle mention for only one of them through an echo-log, but that's about it. To add on, this game completely disregards the warning that The Watcher warned Lilith and Co about at the end of Pre-Sequel.
