Great for sit/stand music keyboard
QUICK SUMMARY: the ability of this powered sit/stand desk to go as low as 23.6 inches makes it a perfect solution for practicing electric piano in both sitting and standing positions. CAVEATE: before implementing a solution like this, be sure the minimum height (23.6 inches plus the height of the top you attach) will put you at the correct playing height (key surface at or slightly below elbow height) by taking measurements while seated at your bench, and taking into account the distance from the surface on which your keyboard sits to the top surface of the keys. PROBLEM I WAS TRYING TO SOLVE: I took up piano at age 62 (about a year ago) using an electronic keyboard (Yamaha P121, 76 keys). After about six months I started getting sciatica pains from sitting on the bench for over an hour a day. I got a taller keyboard stand and went to a standing position which eliminated the sciatica. However, now I'm doing more and more practice that requires a lot of pedal work, and playing keyboard while standing can be a bit tricky when working the pedal while going up and down the keyboard (my balance not being the best in the world!). Plus, standing for an hour can cause a bit of lower back ache for me. So, it would be nice to sit sometimes and stand sometimes. SOLUTION: The solution of course would be to change positions, sitting for half an hour, standing for half an hour etc. But switching my current stand's height is not a simple process and requires taking the keyboard off (with all it's associated wires), changing all four legs, putting everything back together. Not something I would like to do every day. THE SEARCH: So I looked for a powered sit/stand desk. I was looking for months, but all of them had a minimum height around 27 inches or more. That's way too high (as my keyboard is 5" tall from the bottom to the top of the keys, so a 27 inch stand would put the key surface at 32 inches) and would put the key surface above my elbow height (optimal position for me is key surface about 1-2 inches below my elbow height (with arms down at sides and forearm horizontal) so my forearms are slightly angled downward). Finally, I found this one which goes down to (with a 1" thick top installed) 24.6". That is absolutely perfect for my height with my bench on max height, and would likely be good for most people. (If you're on the shorter side, maybe not though. I am 5 foot 9. You would need to measure your elbow height when sitting on your bench. Some people like the key surface at elbow height, in that case you get a bit more leeway.) ASSEMBLY: The instruction's estimate of 5 minutes for assembly is wildly optimistic, but I would never have expected to be able to assemble something like this in 5 minutes LOL. It took me about 30 minutes, which is just fine. But I am pretty handy and build things all the time so your mileage may vary. Still, it was not difficult or complex by any means, just took a little organization and care to make sure everything lined up the right way. I bought a 24" by 60" cherry wood laminate top for $70 and it looks great and has extra horizontal room (since I want to eventually expand to an 88 key keyboard and those are usually over 50" wide). It even has room for additional speakers, a mixer, and other accessories for future expansion, and the included headphone hook is convenient for when I want to practice without disturbing the rest of the household. I also put 2.5" diameter felt pads on the feet of the unit since I have it deployed on a hardwood floor and didn't want to scratch it. I chose 2mm thick felt pads so as not to add too much height to the minimum setting. PROGRAMMING HEIGHT POSITIONS: It's super easy to set your desired heights and do the initial reset. The instructions are clear enough though a bit stilted (having been translated). I was initially worried that the unit would lose my height settings on power failure since the instructions seem to hint that would happen. We lose power in my area on a monthly basis so that would be a bit of a pain to have to dial the settings in every time. However, I did a test, unplugging the unit for 1 full minute then plugging back in, and it did retain all my settings. DAILY USE: I've used this for several practice sessions, and wow, it's a game changer for me. When I'm just doing scales or arps, I stand. When I work on a song that needs a lot of pedaling, I click one button and five seconds later I'm sitting. When I get tired of sitting or don't need a lot of pedal work, I stand again. The movement of the unit is smooth and pretty quiet. The unit is also rock solid for keyboard playing. My prior stand, which was a pretty good brand (Jamstand) would wobble slightly if I was playing something where I was pounding on the keys (fortissimo). And during fast scale work going up and down it would slightly wobble side to side which actually made it slightly harder to hit the right keys, being moving targets. Not this unit. Doesn't budge. CONS: Of course, this does not take the place of a portable stand. This is anything but portable, it doesn't fold up and with the top probably weighs north of 50 pounds. This is only for use in a permanent practice situation, like a home or studio. But for that purpose, wow. Perfect. COMPETING SOLUTION: I did a search in music stores for a powered sit/stand keyboard stand made specifically for music use. I only found one, it cost $1559. This solution, including the top and shipping of the top, came in around $400. As far as I could tell from the descriptive information, the purpose built music solution had no additional features beyond what I'm getting with the less expensive solution here (other than looking a bit more like a traditional stand). That stand does go very slightly lower, 23.5 inches whereas mine with top is 24.6 inches minimum. So, if you are on the shorter side, that one inch might make a difference. But, I will note that you could find a thinner top. My top is 1" but you could probably use a slab of melomine that's 1/2 inch and get the minimum of this solution down to 23.6", then they're basically the same. Or find a slightly taller bench seat. My bench seat max height is 22.25". OVERALL: A great solution for a sit/stand electronic keyboard practice for home or studio. Makes it much easier for me to practice comfortably for protracted periods without triggering sciatica or lower back problems. When I get tired of one position, one click of a button and I'm in the other position. Because of this I'm already practicing more and enjoying it more.

A good buy
Seems expensive compared to the hundreds of other options out there, but I ultimately chose this standing desk frame for its two year warranty, 3-tier legs, dual motor setup and lift capacity, and the three memory settings for the height adjustment. The parts seemed to be a good quality with no finish issues, but it took a good while to install on my solid walnut 60x25x1.5" 50lb desktop since I wanted alignment and positioning to be perfect. I also took the opportunity to swap out the short desktop screws with longer ones, as well as the adjustable leveling feet with lockable casters (M8x20mm threads) to help move the desk around more easily. Height adjustment is smooth and reasonably quiet, and the memory settings work flawlessly. The desk is a little wobbly at my usual 41" height level, but it's more noticeable for me since I have an ultra wide monitor on an extendible/adjustable arm clamp mount. It's not a serious issue though and there's no perceived wobble at sitting heights. I originally had issues with an E-2 error whenever trying to raise the desk height because the troubleshooting manual was lost in the packaging material, but the seller patiently worked with me to reduce some related safety/sensitivity settings.

Much higher quality than I expected for this price
I purchased a very nice stand up desk from a going out of business sale, and once I got it home I found one of the legs lift was broken, and the original manufacture is out of business (victim of Covid-19?) as well, so no fixing it. I figure I paid a reasonable price for the desktop, but I still wanted a standup desk. I found this lift on Amazon, ordered it, and hoped for the best. Wow, this is an excellent quality lift for my desk. I laughed when I saw in the manual an "Assembly time" of five minutes. It took me and my son about an hour, but I wanted to be super careful, and make sure it was just right. It wasn't particularly difficult, but could be an effort to build if you are not mechanically inclined. It's smooth, quiet, and goes very low and extremely high... higher that I would be comfortable using and I'm 6" tall. While it's not the cheapest unit out there, it's not super expensive either, and I suspect the quality is significantly better than those that are just $50 cheaper. The frame is heavy steel, I can't imagine having to invoke the five year warranty on it. The three year warranty on the motor's gives me excellent peace of mind. I would definitely recommend purchasing this unit.

Worth the Wait - My Must Have WFH Item!
UPDATE (Almost 3 years in use): Continues to work as advertised. Have given family members one of my model and one of the newer controller model (USB ports built into the height controller) for WFH use. We are all extremely satisfied. In addition, we all have the Uprite Ergo Mesh Cable Manager and the PivyCord-V Flex Chain Raceway to keep the look clean and uncluttered. Unpackaging and Assembly: The item was well packaged with a fitted firm foam interior that protected the beautiful finish on the legs and frame. I don't remember seeing it, but the metalwork may be powder coated. I gave 5 stars for the assembly as it is easy and straightforward. While the assembly instructions are very good, they could use a better diagram for mounting the motor control underneath. For shorter desks, there are hooks on the box that attach to the frame. For longer desks you can screw directly to the desk. Because the hooks didn't feel "secure," I hooked the box to the frame, then added screws to make sure it stayed in place. Total assembly time: ~ 30 minutes. Short term usage: Thus far, no issues with the up/down movement and the memory controls. Very, very stable even when I mounted ~6 inches from each L/R edge of a 72" tabletop. If long-term use is the same, this will have been a bargain. I hope update at 6 months. Overall: Extremely satisfied and have recommended to my family for their home offices. Side note: I also purchased an Uprite Ergo Mesh Cable Organizer to keep the desktop and underneath the desk free of cable clutter. Seems good quality but received a faulty unit--UPDATE
UPDATED REVIEW-- Fromann eventually reached out and provided me with a working unit for free. It seems I might have received a "lemon" first time but luckily this second unit seems to work. Assembly was much easier the second time around and the unit is responsive. I am slightly hesitant about the warranty if something should go wrong, but certainly works now for a reasonable price. Just be aware you will still have to reach out to the seller via amazon if something goes wrong (at least initially) and would have been nice had the first unit worked which is why I reduced it 1 star. ORIGINAL REVIEW-- Package arrived quickly and overall initial quality was surprisingly nice. However, when I went to assemble two of the frame holes did not align and could not be assembled. Since the quality appeared nice, I decided to drill out the miss-aligned holes so I could continue assembly which was easy enough. The real issue was when I went to turn on the unit. After plugging in the unit, the desk immediately raised to setting 91 and none of the buttons were responsive. After turning the unit on and off, I then received a e-1 res error which should have allowed the unit to reset. However, since none of the buttons worked, the reset function was useless. I quickly realized there is NO contact information for the company so had to reach out via amazon to the seller (yes there is no information in the included manual or shipping materials). The company was fairly responsive via amazon, however they more or less sent the operating manual twice. I was finally able to get a contact email address but have not received a response which was unsettling. Please note that I waited a few days for a response since they will only respond at night due to difference in time zones. Needless to say, I unfortunately had to un-assemble and return this defective unit. If this product worked I think it might be good value for money, but I would assume the "warranty" is completely worthless (lack of direct contact information is telling).

Better than I anticipated!
This electric adjustable desk base is so worth the money!!! First - the weight of the package is no joke. It is a heavy box compacted into an estimated - 8"x12"x48" box. Inside, the parts are neatly packed into its packaging, and the number of pieces was less than I expected. There is a cross-section for under the desk, where the motors and legs attach, 2-raising legs, 2-wide feet, a power-box, control assembly, and some wires. I connected all the parts following the instructions, and it was pretty easy. Heavy sheet metal bolts screw each piece together. The steel is a hefty gauge. I bought a Butcher Block Desktop / Countertop (from Home Depot - under $200), and it is 60" x 30" and weighs an estimated 65-80lbs. I screwed the base to the new Butcher Desktop, installed the control assembly at the edge, and set up my desk. I have two large monitors (32" 4K & 28" UHD) plus a laptop and other gear on top of the desk. FYI - I adjusted the settings (see instructions) to reflect the height of the top of my desk to the floor and changed it to Inches (live in the US). The desk has NO PROBLEM in lifting all this weight up and down. When pressing the button to adjust, it has a smooth beginning and throughout the entire trip up and down. I highly recommend this product for around $500 with the butcherblock desktop.

Excellent, High Quality Product!!
Extremely easy to assemble.. Very good, high quality product.. Super smooth.. Works great.. You do need to have a good thick desk top to use. I used this with a 1โ thick x 60โ wide x 30โ deep (front to back) desk. It is very smooth and quiet.. I have yet, to load all of my work monitors, but I foresee no issues as it is also very sturdy and does not wobble at all. I would definitely buy this product again. Exactly what I was looking ๐ for.. Great value!
