Once in situ you could use concrete waterproofer to seal them but check with Vitcas first before application they will inform you if this is required. **Q: I have just received these and they look very flimsy, I want a firebrick as a base for my wood fired oven which has a grill not a solid base, will the** A: They need to set on a solid base as they do break easily. If applying to concrete they need to be soaked in water first so that they do not dry out the mortar. They would not be suitable for a grill they need a firm base for support. **Q: How do you cut them** A: I just used a normal wood saw. The cut really easy too. **Q: Would these be suitable to stand a kamado grill bbq on to protect a wooden shelf below?** A: I use these bricks on my work bench to braze metal objects on. I have a blow torch full on and even though the bricks can get red hot I have not burnt the top of my bench yet !
