Review: I'm Embarrassed lol - I'm a grown man in my 30's. I am embarassed to admit how much fun I have had with this stupid little toy lol. It has brought me more the $30 worth of joy and for that, five stars!
Review: It has become a favorite item im my basement...sometimes the simple things are the best - This little toy has not changed at all over the years. It uses sliding lanes to move little horses toward the finish line...and that is about it, but that is what makes it cool. It is a very simple toy that is a lot of fun because the outcome of each race is really fun to wager on and the races themselves are fun to watch. I have several pinball machines in my basement along with a couple arcade games and this little thing gets as much if not more attention than any of my other much more expensive toys. In fact three of my friends have bought one of these since seeing mine. The horses store nicely in a compartment on the bottom of the unit but keep in mind that the horses are quite small. They can be easily lost or even swallowed by little ones so keep track of the horses. One thing of note. When you first start using the Derby Game, the outcome will seem to favor specific lanes. For example the first 5 times I ran a race, the horse in lane 6 always finished last. But after using it a couple dozen times, we found that the outcome was completely random. The lanes themselves seem to need to be smoothed out a bit to level the playing field and create a random result. So, run a few races before placing your wagers...:)

**Q: Is this the same as the westminster game also on amazon for $10.95, while this desktop derby version is $16.50? they look exactly the same.**
A: Yes Laurie, it is most probably the same.  Some sellers don't care if they take a loss on a product while others do.  I suggest you buy quickly from those who sell so low before they go out of business.

**Q: can the horses be replaced if lost or swallowed?**
A: The horses are very small and I haven't seen anywhere where you can just buy the horses.  Great fun though.  My son was 5 when he got it and hasn't lost anything yet.  Has a storage compartment underneath.

**Q: Will i get disqualified if i stray out of my lane like the horse in the kentucky derby?**
A: The horses have their own little lanes so straying out of the lane is nearly impossible. However, if that were to happen; it could be left up to the players of the game to decide if your horse was disqualified because the game doesn't come with a rule book.

**Q: I've put batteries in and the off switch will not turn the game off.  In have to take a battery out to turn it off.  What's the solution?**
A: The switch was faulty on the one I bought too. Had to order another one.

I've brought these to bachelor parties, camping trips and cruises. They are great when you heave few minutes of downtime. Adults can wager a few bucks on the race, make it a drinking game or kids can just pick and play for fun. We've spent HOURS playing this and there really is no "sequence" or way to know which horse is going to win. It is truly random. Even my wife, who doesn't like playing board/card/dice games, will play this and really get into it. After a while, one of the tracks started to not work as it should, so we just take that horse off the track. I bought a 2nd one, so now we have more lanes to bet on for bigger groups. It's such a simple game, but it truly can be a memorable experience with some friends and your own set of rules/wagers.
