Must Have!
This is a must-have! I buy the Chilton manual for every one of my cars as soon as it's available. It is also very much appreciated by the buyer when you sell your car.

Missing Information
I have always preferred Chilton repair manuals to other brands and so far I'm happy with this manual overall. Somehow the editors left out an important and very common procedure, how to reset the oil change message from the on board message center but a quick Internet search remedied the situation (turn the key fob to the on position without starting then press the gas pedal to the floor & release 3 times).

Probably the worst service manual I've ever purchased
A good service manual is the most important tool in your toolbox. Over the years I've used Haynes, Chilton, and Clymer manuals to do many jobs from changing oil to replacing a transmission. I purchased this one with the expectation that it would be as good as others I've had over the years. I recently tried to used this Chilton manual while changing front shocks on our Jeep GC.First off, this manual does not stand up to other Chilton manuals I've used over the years. There are none of the helpful diagrams of part details, and even the black/white pictures included are too few and lacking detail. The instructions skip over many details, which is actually common among more expensive factory manuals -- they assume you already know the basics. However, this manual is not an expert manual and no where near a factory manual. It's embarrassingly thin -- the Clymer manual for my motorcycle has twice as many pages.Key steps were missing from the job. It doesn't even tell you that you have to compress the spring to replace the shock. This is actually a safety oversight. If you tried to take the retaining nut off the top of the shock after removing the shock/spring assembly, you'd be in for a big surprise. Fastener torque values are not included for key suspension attachments like the lower ball joint to the knuckle.Luckily, I also had other references to compare with this manual. I would NOT recommend this manual for anyone doing even basic jobs on their Jeep. Please look elsewhere.

Dont buy if you have a 3.0 Benz Turbo Diesel JGC!!!!!!!!!
Doesn't cover anything on the 3.0L Mercedes Turbo Diesel that I have. I compared this manual to another jeep manual I have from Chilton and this one is very generic. Seems like they are getting lazy on these manuals.

liked having
replaced the throttte body and traced an electrical problem with this. Wished I had one for the more recent vehicles.

book is ok
I prefer the HAYNES automotive books but this is the only one available I found for the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

General comment
Purchased a 2008 GC with the diesel and therefore wanted a manual to go with it, you know, just incase. The information in the manual is fairly generic and I was disappointed that there is no information on the diesel at all. Not even a mention of it in the available engines section. So general, generic info, great. If you have the diesel, look elsewhere.

Disappointed..
I bought this manual so I could service my Jeep, which is a diesel, the Repair Manual is just for petrol models. I am very disappointed.
