Hunter HPC400 Sprinkler Controller, 4 Zone, WiFi Smart Sprinkler Timer

Replaced my old, clunky dial timer with this Hunter HPC400 and it has been a total game-changer for my lawn. What I love about it: The App Just Works: Setting up Wi-Fi on the touchscreen took a few minutes. Now I can turn zones on and off right from my phone while standing in the yard. The HPC400 controller is a fine piece of gear. Adding the three zone expansion module, which I needed to do to accommodate the seven zones that I have, took less than 30 seconds. Programming was a snap. The Hydrawise application is Very easy to use, too. I highly recommend this sprinkler controller.

This sprinkler controller is typical Hunter quality. We have had a Pro-HC controller for nearly 20 years and never had an issue with it. It's still going strong, but we recently added this HPC400 in another location. Set up is relatively straightforward and programming using the Hydrawise app is easy. So why 4 stars instead of 5? The instructions that come with the unit are for three different controllers plus an add-on and in 5 different languages all in the same step. Very confusing. It took scanning a small QR code and finding a small detail in one illustration to make sure we had the sprinkler wiring correct. Note: the COM connection below the sensor connections is the common for the sprinkler valves. I still highly recommend this timer. It can be mounted outdoors and is lockable if security is an issue.

I replaced an older model Hunter controller. I debated whether to get the new unit that has Hydrawize app but am very glad I did. The controller is fantastic and the app works amazingly well. The app is super easy to use and makes using and programming the controller a breeze. I have not found anything they could do to improve the app. The more I use it the more I appreciate the robust solution that Hunter has provided. I rarely do a review of a product, although I should more often because I study them prior to a purchase. Reviews are helpful In making a more informed decision. This product works so well, all I can say is don't hesitate to buy it!

Replacing the old one was fairly easy, and since this controller uses the same power modules to run 12 stations as my old one, it was motivation to purchase. I'm not a techy so although setting up a wireless internet connection and establishing a Hydrawise account was easy, I found using the app had a learning curve for me. But after several uses and watching online tutorials it's now a breeze. Good things: I find that my need for a rain sensor really doesn't exist in that I can control it in real time via online or phone app. When performing sprinkler maintenance it's great to control flow of water from a distance vs hiking up a hill then back while testing, adjusting. When I'm away I can control it remotely based on sudden weather changes - an economical benefit. If an area needs less or more irrigation I can easily adjust as needed - another economical benefit. Overall very good experience.

This is the ultimate upgrade in sprinkler technology. No more standing in front of your controller to turn on an area and running around the house try to see if the area you turned on is actually working. This was a super easy upgrade for me, I literally just popped the faceplate off of my existing one and installed this with a single ribbon cable! There’s a completely free app that lets you connect to it through your phone, you name your areas, and you can setup all kinds of schedules, and get insights to how much water you’ve used recently in comparison to previous weeks. It looks really good in the app and the touch screen works great as well. It has built in prediction with rain and heavy sun to accurately detect when to water less or more. Once you get this you won’t be going back! It was so good, I bought a second one just to give to my neighbor as payback for a favor!

This was a difficult product to rate - some good and some bad. The negatives: The documentation provided with the package is minimal. It is very generic to cover multiple models and is in multiple languages. Maybe a tenth is usable and applies to the actual product you buy. The mounting instructions are poor. A template provided has 4 mounting holes plus a keyhole slot. Two of the mounting holes are covered by internal components but you can use the other two and the keyhole slot mount. You can figure it out, but it should be documented in a more straightforward manner. There is a large hole on the bottom for the conduit but no adapters or fittings that would make installation easy. I had to run to the hardware store to cobble something together to attach the conduit and cover the remaining open hole area - you'll figure it out is (a common theme of this product), but it takes unnecessary time. Everything directs you to support on their website for setting it up and using. That might be okay but the information, while all there, is scattered. You really have to hunt around to figure things out. Some written information and some videos. I had trouble accessing their "video library" since the instructions indicated to select an icon that didn't exist. I'm fairly computer and tech savvy so I managed to get to the finish line but if your skills are lacking in these areas, you might get frustrated and need to call you techy friend. The positives: Adding the controller to my home network was easy and straightforward. Next comes the apps. Once you install it you can't use it until you establish your account. You get an email with a "Get started" button. Kind of clunky to go from app to email. The email link to get started worked well. I did this on my PC to make it easier. There are many screens and choices to go through, so I highly recommended opening that email on a PC and getting everything setup in the webapp. You need the screen real estate to make it easier. Once it was setup via PC on their web app, I logged into the apps I previously installed (but didn't login) on my iPhone and Android tablet. The login information was already done using the webapp and access via IPhone and tablet went fine. The saving grace is app. It is one of the best designed ones I have used. Really intuitive, lots of nice features and a pleasure to use. The app is 5 star and the documentation clarity is 1 star, hence the 3-star rating. I worked in engineering and the documentation always comes last. If project money is short - guess what doesn't get done well. I really like the end result but not the hoops I had to jump through to get there. Final word is that this is a good product with an excellent app but documentation needs improvement.

Item is amazing, but it's US voltage. This should be made clear on the UK Amazon website. I've since reordered with a local supplier, so I know item is wonderful.
