Great rock collection kit. Pretty good variety for the price. My 10yr old was entertained for quite some time identifying the different rocks this collection contained. The fossils that came with the collection are a nice little added perk. Great buy for anyone who loves rocks and collecting as much as my kiddo does.

Okay, confession time. I am almost forty-one years old, yet I ordered this kit for myself, not for a kid. I love rocks and crystals and minerals, not for healing, but just because they are fascinating and beautiful. I didn't have much before, so I decided to get what would sort of be a starter kit for myself. I was vacillating among this kit and a couple of others on Amazon. Here's what I got: 1. A set of tumbled stones of varying sizes, pictured in the oval dish with the red mechanical pencil for scale. 2. A set of most of the same stones in rough form, pictured in the rectangular dish. 3. A good-sized bag with a mix of smaller tumbled stones. They came all mixed together, but I have a penchant for sorting, so I have sorted all of mine out into little baggies. 4. A set of fossils, in the plastic box. 5. A "special" set of pumice, pyrite, and desert rose. 6. A big plastic identification mat (not pictured) *Note--there was not any plain gravel/limestone filler. All of the stones were good for keeping. The description uses the words "activity kit," but there aren't really activities included. I guess the activity part is blowing up the Internet like I did, trying to identify some of the stones that aren't on the mat. All of the larger ones were, but in the tumbled mix of smaller stones there were lots that weren't. I still have a couple pieces of "confusionite." I did run into one oddity: a few of the small stones had a round shape, almost like a marble cut in half. It's almost like they're tiny game pieces. Really I have only one disappointment: the desert rose. It is in the photo with the three stones. I was expecting a small but entire crystal structure, but it actually looks like there was a desert rose that was sawed into multiple pieces and I got one of the pieces. In fact, it has a couple of smooth flat sides where it was cut. You can't really get a sense of the structure and shape at all. Some of the other rough stones have flat sides, too, as though they were cut from larger chunks, but those aren't as bothersome as the desert rose. So it's a great set. If all of the sets are as good as the one I got, the purchaser should be well satisfied.

This rock, mineral, and fossil collection is a great value. You definitely get your money’s worth! There are generous sized mineral specimens (and some tiny specimens as well), a nice little box with assorted fossils, raw minerals, a large vinyl learning mat that has photos and descriptions of some of the minerals and fossils included, and more. Its educational and fun for all ages! To help you with identifying the rocks and minerals, I would suggest using the internet to view photos of some of the various rocks and minerals, because many of them can come in a variety of colors. As an added bonus, the seller, Surreal Brands, has a wonderful customer service department. I had a question, they responded quickly, but most of all, they were very nice and wanted to make sure that I was completely satisfied with my purchase. I would definitely purchase from this seller again.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: I thought it would be great for my 8 year old son who has started collecting. This kit had a good assortment of gems, rocks and fossils. He was very excited to receive it and was very happy!!!

My 9 year old son purchased this with his own money. This is his review: These rocks are great. They are fun to sort and look at. The mat really helps with sorting, and helps me learn about the different fossils, minerals, and rocks. My favorite in the set is the desert rose. My dad really likes the snowflake obsidian rocks. There some very cool fossils, including three dinosaur bones, two shark teeth, a crinoids and a lot more. My picture includes some but not all of the fossils I got. I read other reviews and wanted to say that I didn’t receive any fillers or chips. Some of the rock samples are a little small, but they are all fun to sort and look at. I’m very happy with my purchase—I think this is an amazing kit.

First of all let me start by saying the price was good for the amount of rocks and fossils you get, unfortunately the bulk of the stones are tiny which is misleading because there is no mention of this size anywhere in the description? The size of these stones are so tiny that there is no real enjoyment of the discovery for the children who would be enjoying them. These stones are mostly smaller than ¼" even as small as ⅛" on average and I think that if they would be more forthcoming with this detailed information people could make a more informed dissension on their purchase and possibly look elsewhere for exactly what they're looking for. I will say the these stones are all tumbled and very nice to look at for the most part, the package does come with more than one pouch of stones including raw untumbled stones that are larger as well as fossils but these pouches have very few stones. If I were to have had a more detailed description I would have searched elsewhere for something that fit my criteria BUT the company did try with a nice color printed search poster that help the kids get excited about their discoveries.

Contiene tutto il necessario per esplorare e imparare sulla geologia, con una buona selezione di strumenti e campioni. È perfetto per chi vuole avvicinarsi a questa affascinante attività, sia per adulti che per bambini. L’unico difetto che ho riscontrato è che tutte le istruzioni e le informazioni sono scritte in inglese. Questo può essere un po’ scomodo se non si è familiari con la lingua, ma a parte questo, il kit è di ottima qualità e offre tante possibilità educative. I campioni di minerali e fossili sono interessanti e ben curati, e gli strumenti sono utili per esplorare e raccogliere. In generale, un buon acquisto per gli appassionati di geologia, ma sarebbe perfetto se ci fossero testi in italiano.

Bought this for our daughter for Christmas she was absolutely thrilled. The entire kit was Exceptional. Have bought many other brands and this will be the only one I will definitely buy from again. So many gem stones, crystals and fossils that it kept her busy for a long time. It came with a poster with a ton of information on each item, multiple high quality keepsake bags and even one for favorites and a little display box to keep the fossils safe. Highly recommend this item to anyone who has a loved one who enjoys collecting these.

It hasn't been opened yet, is a Christmas present. BUT it is a decent sized box and looks even better than it does online if that helps! Sorry folks.
