Does this help prevent against skimming whilst the record is playing?

It gives a pretty accurate measure of actual tracking force to a small fraction of a gram and worked well for me. You need to know the the correct force for your cartridge. If you are getting skimming something must be very wrong though.

Says full no matter where i put the tonearm weight. how do i recalibrate as the instructions are useless

Drop the 5g weight on to calibrate. Remove and tare
