Med Spec ASO Ankle Stabilizer Lace Up Ankle Brace Sprain Support Black, SM

I spent a lot of time trying to decide between this and a McDavid brace after my last severe ankle sprain - I chose this based on reviews indicating it was easy to get on and off, but provided excellent support and was comfortable. After using it for a few months, I can say all of those things are true. Putting it on is straightforward - undo all the straps, loosen up the laces, and slide your foot in. Tighten and tie the laces, wrap both heel straps around and fasten the velcro, and finish it off with the ankle strap. Takes a minute or so to do, way faster than any taping job. And the laces are long enough that I can get my foot in and out without removing them - I do have to loosen them almost as much as possible though, especially if my ankle is stiff. I am right on the border between sizes - got an XL based on the ankle circumference chart with a measurement of 14, and a 12W or 13 foot also pointed to XL. For times when my ankle is not swollen, there is some extra fabric in there. But the system still tightens down nicely and feels stable, and on the upside I can still get my foot into the brace when my ankle is swollen. If I was buying a second one for routine use I would get a Large. The brace is also comfortable. It restricts motion, but there are no pain points or other irritation, even after playing basketball for a few hours. I was surprised at how well it worked the first time, not it just seems normal. I had to loosen the laces on my shoes a bit to get it in, but no need for bigger shoes. Some people have mentioned smell - I always rinse it out after use, and hang it to dry for a day or so before using again, and never have had an issue. If you will be using it daily, I recommend having two pairs and alternating them. I am working on strengthening the ankle so I don't need it regularly - I use it for basketball but not running, so it isn't a daily thing. Overall, this is an excellent brace, that really helped me to get active more quickly after an injury. I recommend it.

This is the single best purchase I’ve made. I wear size 13 shoes l. Ordered XL. It’s not only is the right size but with the laces I can get the brace real tight or as tight as I want it. The Velcro straps keep everything tight. The bone in my leg that goes into my foot, the tibia grinds in its socket. This brace nearly eliminates the problem. If I twist I can make the joint click but normal use for walking etc, it works great. Doctors have told me I need my foot rebuilt so to speak. This should keep the joint from wearing out thus no surgery!

I have a history of injuries to my left foot since my teens. Various ankle and foot injuries over the past 20 years, doctors always tell me, "You must really hate your left foot!" Alas, it's been about a year since my last ankle sprain so it was time. About 6 days ago, I Slipped in my driveway from uneven ground and boom. Trying to maximize recovery and minimize downtime, I R.I.C.E'd it and kept off of it as much as possible all week. I wore an ACE deluxe stabilizer for the first couple of days while waiting for the ASO one and what a difference the ASO one made on the first day with it. I went from limited mobility and limping to now having comfortable, secure and firm support for my rolled ankle as I get around my house. It definitely makes an observable difference in my walking. I'm glad I picked this up for my recovery over the next weeks and months. I will be ordering another one to have a backup! Ease of Use: A lot of this product's reviews mention it is too difficult to use. I was able to wrap my ankle in about 5-6 minutes out of the box. Read the instructions first even if you're familiar with using ankle braces and stabilizers. ACE deluxe stabilized is good and one I've used before during previous sprains and recoveries but the ASO is way better in terms of support and security. Sizing: I am a 7.5-8 wide, size 14-16 woman. Ordered a medium. It fit fine around my ankle and foot. The tiny issue I had was the heel had a little bit of excess fabric but when wrapping the straps around my foot, it helped keep the excess in place. Able to wear Puma lows comfortably with the ASO brace. Haven't tried it with any of my high top shoes or boots. Will update my review when I test this brace out with those! Overall, very impressed with security, firmness, price and sizing considering I've used a lot of different dr. prescribed and other brand stabilizers in my lifetime. Kudos to Flexbrace for shipping this out in 2 days! Wasn't expecting it until Friday, came in on Thursday. Ordered it Tuesday! Thanks from a person who will definitely try to show her left foot more love from now on!

I fell and injured my ankle, so I bought this brace. After hobbling around in pain for a couple days, I went to urgent care, where they confirmed I had a Grade 2 ankle sprain. The doctor confirmed this brace was virtually identical to what they’d have given me if I didn’t already have it, so it saved me quite a bit of money. It was perfect to stabilize my ankle as it healed for the next 6 weeks. It still looks like new! It was a big tough to put on those first several days, as it does require you to angle your foot a bit, which isn’t easy with significant swelling and pain, so I had to almost completely undo it each time at first. No big deal. As my swelling went down, I could leave it mostly done up, and just loosen the laces, to slide it on and do up the Velcro straps and go. Be sure to wear it with a normal crew sock, to prevent it from digging in uncomfortably. Oh also, I’m a woman and wear size 6.5 shoes, and I have fairly narrow feet. The XS fit perfectly, even while swelling was present.

Overall, this is a high quality, durable ankle brace that's mostly well designed and constructed of good durable materials. Except for the top of the heel opening cutting into my Achilles tendon, it's comfortable and provides very good lateral support. (4.5 stars) I felt the pressure on my Achilles at first and after two days, it was hurting worse than my ankle, even for 12 hours after taken it off. I’ve been experimenting with alternative options to prevent the sharp pressure on my Achilles because I need to wear it more when I’m less laid up and getting about. I wish they could adjust the design to be more Achilles friendly. Otherwise, it’s great for the ankle. The stiffness of the brace materials relaxes some after wear, but still remain strong. Not pulling the lateral straps as tight also doesn’t compress the heel opening down on the Achilles as much. There’s a balance between comfort and lateral stability when it comes to tightening the straps. Less critical to tighten for greater immobilization further into recovery. I’m using it for walking around, but not resting with my leg up for longer periods. The natural tendency for my foot to be greater than a 90° angle with my legs up and stretched out causes more of a pinch at the back at my Achilles, so I wear an Ace bandage at those times. I think this has more to do with an incompatibility of my knobby heel with the general design and mechanics of this type / style of brace. I've have heel rubbing issues with certain brands of hiking shoes and boots. The memory of having Achilles discomfort with my previous brace, but not so bad, came back to me. "Normal" feet aren’t supposed to have problems. It kind of comes down to exchanging Achilles discomfort for good ankle support and being careful not to cause an Achilles injury. I recently bought a second ASO brace immediately after an inversion ankle sprain. My ankle feels very stable and protected wearing it. It seems to be the same quality and design as a previous ASO brace I bought about 10 years ago, which I needed to wear for 4 weeks after 12 weeks of being in a boot from a leg fracture and torn ankle ligaments. Most of the surrounding muscles, including my calf muscles had atrophied after 12 weeks recovery in the boot, so likely the brace fit differently making it less problematic on my Achilles then. I wore it walking around town and on my feet at work all day. After 4 weeks of wear, it went to a friend who had sprained her ankle and she reported it helped. It definitely held up after a lot of use. The brace fits well inside lace-up shoes that you can spread open a little more, or while wearing house slippers with a larger opening you can stretch a bit. It’s much less bulky than an Ace bandage wrap for getting your foot inside shoes. It also stays put once it’s on. Ordering a smaller size, which has a smaller heel hole and rests lower to near the top of my heel bone (calcaneus) wasn’t a solution. It was too small. So the original size small I measured using the circumference chart was the best option.

This was highly recommended by my ortho as an option for night time as the air cast was driving me nuts. I won't even wear this one night. I'm not sure what it's stabilizing or supporting as it only really covers the heel. Unless I tie it extremely tight, it's not going to stay in place and cutting off circulation to my foot isn't going to help. I should have known better when I watched the video reviews. They looked way too much like paid advertisements.

Mein Sohn trägt diese Bandagen täglich im Training (Basketball) und bei den Spielen. Sie sind sehr stabil und geben, nach mehreren Sprunggelenksverletzungen, die benötigte Stabilität ( je nach Spiel evtl. +Tape). Einzig die Sprungkraft ist etwas eingeschränkt, aber den Preis muss man dann wohl zahlen....

Looks and feels GREAT on the feet - looking forward to try them in the tennis court! Vamoos!

La miglio cavigliera per chi ha subito interventi o rotture di legamenti. Mantiene la caviglia stabile e lascia il piede libero. Ottimo per il tennis
