Studio 10 is horribly unstable.
I have not had a good time with Studio Pro 10 in the two days that I've owned it (it came packaged with Pinnacle's 700-USB); it has crashed roughly a dozen times -- when I've attempted to edit clips, when I've tried to activate premium content, when I've tried to burn a DVD from the interface. A review of Pinnacle's anemic user forums reveals that my experience is far from being the exception.I wish I could simply blame my problems on outdated drivers, insufficient disk space or RAM or processor power, but I don't think I can: I'm using a P4 3Ghz system with 1GB of RAM and I've got 24GB still free on my hard drive. The system is only 7 months old, has been fully patched in terms of device drivers and OS, and I scan it regularly for viruses and spyware.Oh, and I applied the latest patches to Studio pro, which supposedly fixed quite a few problems. I shudder to think what it was like previously.Studio Pro 10 LOOKS like it has lots of nice features that I could use to convert my 8mm videos to DVD, but it apparently won't remain stable long enough for that to happen. Until Pinnacle gets their collective, uh, *stuff* together and fixes a horribly twitchy product, I would STRONGLY recommend that you stay away from it.I would be hard pressed to be more disappointed with a product I have just purchased.

Amazing. The software almost always crashes
Although I read previous reviews here complaining about unstable software, I purchased one, thinking I can handle it. Wow. This software crashes almost always. Used only for a few days, but a lot of time is already lost. I've updated verison 10.5 but no help. This one is just simply bad and not worth. I am going to return this product.

Imports video well but otherwise has issues
My dv camera had no video input option, only output, so I wanted something that would allow me to record from tv/vhs/dvd. I bought this product because it was the only option for me at the time so I learned to deal with any of its flaws. It takes a while to open and has crashed a few times, but the times it has worked correctly far outnumbers that. It will occasionally drop frames if the vhs quality is too rough. If I'm only recording a short clip and I see frames have dropped, I'll simply stop recording and start again and that seems to fix it. I've never had a problem with video and audio sync, not even after an hour of recording. I could let my computer go to the screensaver and come back after a long time to find its still recording properly with no dropped frames. After recording it automatically saves the video in its entirety in your videos folder. The quality is decent and you have a few quality options to select from. The editing is pretty basic, but you can split clips down to the smallest time increments. No complaints about exporting. I've done very little editing with this program. It's easy to work with, but I don't love the setup. I already had premiere elements installed, so as soon as the capture was over I would close the program and do my editing in premiere. There were problems opening some video files that were already on my computer though.I bought this package for the video converting which has served me well over the years. I would give that aspect 4 stars. As for the program used to work it, I would give it 2. This program doesn't work with windows 7 64bit. There are better options for better prices.

Very nice product
Contrary to most of the reviews I have read here, I am happy with this product. I used it to capture videos from my old Sony D8 PAL camera, even when I bought the equipment in the US, and everything went fine. I have also edited some movies, mixed photos and videos from the old camera and the new NTSC DVD camera, and the results were amazing.I had to pay a little extra for Dolby 5.1 activation, but i worth the money. And the timely registration of the product gave me free MPEG 4 and DiVX activation codes. It is not an easy to use software, but the learning curve is OK for me. I have had no crash, except when installing (exactly when the Microsoft SQL server was in installation phase). I have a P4 3 GHz machine with 1 GByte RAM, and Win XP Home.

Crash and burn!
I've worked with Pinnacle Studio versions 8.0, 9.0, 9.4., this one, and a later version. And they've all had two things in common:1. When the program works, it's superb.2. The other 50% of the time, it crashes frequently, and hard. For years, Pinnacle had designed the market's top, novice-affordable video editing/authoring platforms, but for some frustrating reason, they just can't seem to keep the bugs out. Pinnacle Studio Plus 700 USB Version 10.0 is no exception.Lately, the competition in this market has mushroomed, and there are better alternatives available for the same price. At last, others have emulated the Pinnacle platform while eliminating the work/creativity-killing bugs.My advice? Shop around. Google the competition. But save yourself the frustration and steer away from anything Pinnacle.
