My wife has a very restrictive diet (6FED if you want to do further reading) so we need the grits with nothing added to them. These fit the bill, and they are travel-friendly because you can prep them using the coffee pot in a hotel room. She tried these with her favorite add-ins (a bit of chicken bullion and some olive oil) and they were, to her taste, just as good as what I make on the stove top. I tried a packet with MY favorite add-ins (bullion and butter) and to my perhaps more discerning taste they were *almost* as good as stovetop grits. There's just the faintest flavor of (and I'm not sure how to describe this accurately) additional processing. But that's instant anything, really.
