Replacement for the original
This tool rest was a replacement part for a General Machinery mini (10x18) wood lathe. The original cast iron tool rest broke off at the post and tool rest bar, not long after getting this lathe as a gift (new). The Rockler tool rest is better finished, smoother and has a better over all appearance than the original tool rest which broke. The indentation on the top bar is easier on the fingers when supporting your hand in the top bar groove. The weld of the top rest bar and the post is not evident, as it looks as though it is one steel piece. I doesn't have the normal cast iron rough type surface anywhere on the tool rest. I like it, and perceive the tool rest an upgrade feature to my lathe.

Great quality and workmanship
Very well made, has a very smooth surface for the tool and your guiding finger/hand. Extremely functional and far superior to the original rest or any other aftermarket unit that I have seen. Highly recommended.

Buy this for your central machinery mini lathe

Excellent quality.
This tool rest is made and finished beautifully. I actually meant to order the 4in but I'm going to keep this one because it is much better quality than I expected. Now I want the 4 inch one!

Lathe Rest
The Rockler 6" lathe tool rest is very sturdy and well made. I highly recommend the product. However, I am a Prime member and I thought that shipping would be covered...it wasn't. The cost of mailing was almost 50% of the cost for the product.

Works perfectly with my Rikon Midi
I bought this to replace the tool rest on my Rikon model 1218 Midi Lathe. It fits perfectly, and is an improvement over the factory rest, which did not have a hard edge and so collected nicks every time the tool chattered.

It's OK
The diameter of the post is larger than others. You'll have to adjust your tightening nut and handle to compensate for it. So far the horizontal rest itself has worked quite well.
