If you want a trouble free coffee grinder that is quiet, quick, and easy to use, consistent grinds, with very little mess, and easy to clean, then this is it. Your coffee grinding PTSD will be eliminated. I have used less expensive grinders than this Kitchen Aid, including a $20 Kitchen Aid, that was slow, loud, and difficult to clean. This grinder can be easily set for expresso, drip, and pour over. It has a slid for grind size that can be quickly set and a fine tuning dial to set the number of cups which also controls the grind time. It even has a micro adjustment knob. I have now used this grinder a dozen times with absolutely no problems, not even static in the grind collector cup. Cleaning is easy. The stainless steel conical burr can be removed for cleaning, but should not be rinsed. The other parts, the coffee bean holder and collector cup with lid, and bottom tray should only be hand washed. Time wise, I can grind 5 different 1 lbs batches of whole bean coffee and clean up the machine in less than 1 hour at a leisure pace. The most tedious part of cleanup are the top and bottom conical burrs using the provided brush. If you clean the conical burrs, the removable top burr, and the bottom fixed burr, after completing your grinding, your grinder will not clog and your coffee grinds will be consistent every time you use it. I clean the conical burrs, run the machine for the equivalent of 1 to 2 cups, reclean, and repeat 3 times. This only takes a few minutes to do.

This is the third KitchenAid burr coffee grinder I've owned. The first one was a cool retro design like from the 1930s, and it lasted over 12 years. It broke in such a way that should have been an easy repair but KitchenAid didn't sell the needed part. The second one was their new design for the time and it lasted 6 years before it broke. This review is for their latest design. What immediately stood out was the amount of plastic (the hopper, the grounds receptacle, and the body of the unit), and the electronic display. The old grinders were all glass and metal with just a on/off toggle switch. I was concerned that the appliance would be loud and the grounds would be static charged. Surprisingly, this grinder is NOT especially loud and the grounds are NOT static charged. It's the quietest of the three I've owned. It does rumble along but doesn't give off the horrible wake-the-dead squeal of most grinders. The unit has a fairly compact form factor and is light weight due to the lack of glass and the abundance of plastic. What I really like is how even the grounds come out. I put the grind size selector at "drip" (43 on the display) and the product looks like it was commercially ground. You can choose grind sizes ranging from French Press, Perc, Drip, and Espresso, and anything in-between. You can even customize the grind size further by changing the factory settings on the removable portion of the grinding burrs. I can't imagine what kind of coffee purist you would have to be to go that far. The unit is also different in that the grind time is limited with an auto shut-off. You select the number of cups-worth of grounds, which are then converted to the number of seconds the grinder will operate. I weigh the grounds to make my coffee so I don't really pay attention to their system, but my sense is that in the drip setting one cup means about 5 grams of grounds which to me is pretty weak coffee. The maximum number of cups in the drip mode you can set the grinder is 12, which translates to about 56 seconds of grinding. You can only operate the unit 4 times in the drip setting at the max 12 cups before you need to let it rest for 10 minutes and cool down. If you try for a 5th time it will stop mid grind and you will get an error message saying to unplug and wait 10 minutes and try again. So I learned to preemptively stop after 4 cycles and wait 10 minutes. The plastic grounds receptacle will only hold at most 4 12 cup cycles at the drip size setting but I grind 2 weeks worth of grounds at a time and store in vacuum packed containers. As far as cleaning goes, this is by far the easiest burr grinder to clean of the 3 I have experience with. Very easy to disassemble. The hopper twists off and is washable, although it has nooks and crannies that are hard to reach.A portion of the burrs is removable and washable. Be sure anything you wash is completely dry before reassembling. Nothing worse than wet grounds. You can brush out the innerds of the grinder with the brush they provide. I supplement using a wooden chop stick to gently scrape areas and follow up with some quick blasts of computer duster. Be sure to look underneath the unit where the grounds exit the chute. On each side look for a tiny silver metal electrode. These are what neutralize the static charge of the grounds. If you overfill a receptacle and the grounds back up into the chute the electrodes can get impacted with grounds and hamper de-staticing process. Blasting them free with computer duster will restore their function. I have to say overall I am impressed with this grinder. It performs the best of the 3 I've had. Will it last as long is the big question. Electronic displays in the kitchen environment may have a more limited life span, but the overheating sensor might help extend it. Finally the price. I thought it was very reasonable at least when I bought it over 6 months ago. If it lasts 4 or 5 years it would be a good deal.

This is the best purchase of the year so far! went (too far) far into researching this purchase, and was set on flat burr until finding this. It is far more quiet than ever expected, amazing actually. We love the ease of adjustment of the settings, allows to hone in on preferences for any machine and taste preferences you have. Even with the small Expresso bowl size, not one small miss or mess. This is the cleanest grinder ever owned, and solid. This was an anomaly in that it delivers beyond what was expected.

Your journey for a quiet and reliable grinder is over - learn from my mistakes! This one now sits next to my Moccamaster and completes my mornings (and mid mornings and afternoons and sometimes right after dinner...). Previously had a blade grinder in my poor and single days - super noisy, but did an ok job. Next grinder, just wanted something better but not crazy expensive - it was one of these fake company burr grinders (if you notice, there are like 20 different companies all selling the same grinder, each with a different weird name on it). It was quieter than the blade grinder, worked decently, but I made the mistake of trying to clean it one day and didn't notice a very important, and apparently not replaceable part, fall out never to be seen, rendering that mediocre grinder inoperable. My second mistake was thinking that I'd have a similar ok experience with yet another no-name burr grinder - this one was a complete disaster - grinder would get stuck trying to grind beans every time, so dosing was completely random, and it made a mess. Sent it back right away. Finally - buy nice or buy twice - here I was looking to be done with buying grinders for a while. Read reviews, and everyone seemed to recommend obscenely expensive grinders, with a few exceptions that always had some deal-breaker (noisy, or made a mess, or inconsistent, etc). Saw this Kitchenaid out of the corner of my eye, and remembered that our stand mixer has been a staple in multiple kitchens for like 30yrs now. So I decided to take a leap of faith after reading mostly positive reviews. Man, this thing it great! SUPER QUIET - almost pleasant to listen to - like a healthy-sounding V8 instead of a 4-banger with a CVT. The method to select grind size and dosing is great and simple. One button to go first thing in the morning with no fuss, no mess, and then great results - a great cup of coffee every time. Can't complain at all... Being from MI originally, I love that this was perhaps designed locally, so this burr grinder gets a double-thumbs up from this guy...

Love this grinder! TLDR - quiet and no static / dust, plus auto measure! My Baratza Virtuoso of 10 years just died and had to replace. When I bought this, it was considered the gold standard of burr grinders and may still be. However I’m using this for home brew, not running a coffee shop. While I liked the Virtuoso, it was loud enough to wake the neighbors and kicked up more (coffee) dust than a Texas tornado. This KitchenAid Grinder is magical. It’s super quiet where I can sit in my pantry and run it without needing to plug my ears or leave the room. And there is absolutely no static. I’m waiting for whatever magical anti-static spell to wear off, but it’s holding strong and there is no dust. It’s amazing. The other value I didn’t even know it had was an auto measure tool. You select the number of cups you want to brew and it grinds the correct amount. I typically brew the same amount every day, so not a huge benefit, but nice to have if you’re switching it up. Fantastic workhorse of a unit for the price. Gets the job done at home.

Purchased this for grinding coffee for customers at farmers markets (we sell bagged coffee beans), and we love it. PROS Stylish. I think it looks cool, and got the red one to make a statement. Quiet vs other grinders we've owned, which either sound like an airplane taking off, or a blender making crushed ice. Static-free. Even without adding a spritz of water to the beans. Don't know how it's done, but I'm really impressed. Easy-to-adjust grind level and timer. Well-built. A solid machine. I don't expect it to ever break. The grind is uniform. Burrs nearly identical to those our Baratza Encore had. Great price point for a reliable consumer-grade product. Good 1-year warranty. CONS The tray that the bottom hopper sits in is kind of loose. Wish it would attach more solidly. Minor complaint. Made for home use, single-dose or coffee pot. The unit gets warm when grinding whole bag of coffee. The heat build-up became a problem for us, though. We used this from April through July, several times a week, powered by a portable battery. Grinding a bag at a time, no problem. However, doing back-to-back bags, I would often encounter an Error 3 (overheating). The manual suggests unplugging it and waiting 10 minutes for it to cool. Pssh, that doesn't work for us when the customer is standing there waiting for their ground coffee. I just unplugged it and plugged it back in to reset the error. It powered through, and I usually had sufficient cooling time before the next customer requested grinding. Last week, though, I had to grind 6 bags in a row. I got Error 3 several times, and just pushed on. Toward the end, the grinder started making an odd noise, and finally stopped grinding while the motor whined at high speed. My best guess is that there's a non-metal gear in the drive chain that overheated, started to soften, started slipping, and finally deformed enough to lose connection with the drive gear. My fault, as I wasn't following the instructions, forcing unit to exceed design specs. Unfortunately, KitchenAid doesn't sell spare internal parts, and I couldn't even figure out how to open the housing. I suspect it just snaps together. So it's DOA and not repairable. Very sad, because I really liked the machine. Still, if you're grinding for home use, I highly recommend this KitchenAid grinder, and do so to our customers. Pretty sure we'll purchase another one just for daily home use, and use our Bunn G1 for the markets.

This grinder is great. It is relatively quiet and provides a wide range of grind settings, even allowing you to easily adjust the timing for personal preferences. It seems solid. The finest setting is truly fine. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that the grinder did not generate static electricity, something that with our old grinder caused a few coffee grind flakes to scatter with every use. It includes a shelf for espresso pods, but I have not tried it. Our old grinder has been relegated to the beach house, but I'm so pleased with this grinder, I may bite the bullet and get a second as it is a great value.

This is a great coffee grinder and I am very pleased with it. However, it is way more sophisticated than it needs to be. I did not need all these automatic features, but I have found a work-around that allows me to use it the way I prefer. It is designed for someone who wants to fill up the hopper with beans and then dial in how many "cups" of coffee you want to grind. The problem is that nowhere in any of the instructions is a "cup" defined. Is it 5-ounces? 6-ounces? 8-ounces? 12-ounces? 16-ounces? It makes a difference, after all, and you need to know, but it's an undefined quantity. It assumes that you will be satisfied with the amount of coffee that the machine puts out based on its undefined "cup." So, let me explain my process. I only put the amount of beans required for my recipe into the hopper. I then dial in the info (which was determined by trial and error) that will make the grinder work until all the beans are ground and then shut off. It would have been so much simpler if a simple switch had been provided for me to turn it on to start and then off when finished. Now, this is what I really like about this grinder, in no particular order of importance. It is by far the quietest electric burr grinder that I have ever owned, and I have had many, including an older KitchenAid which is the loudest one ever. So, the noise level was a pleasant surprise. The bean hopper and the grounds container are both plastic. Had I known this I would never have bought it because of bad experience I have had with static electricity in the grounds catcher. The plastic grounds catchers in other grinders I have had were just nasty. The grounds had a tendency to go everywhere besides into the catcher and the grounds that went into the catcher then did not want to come out. My cabinet top was always covered with stray coffee grounds. But, guess what? So far, in the few times that I have used this grinder there has been no static problem whatsoever. I am extremely pleased with that. This grinder has 70 grind levels and every level I have placed it on has produced a consistent grind with practically no silt. This is very important to producing a great cup of joe and probably contributes to the lack of static, as well. Yes, it looks good sitting on your cabinet, if that is important to you. And it is definitely high tech, if you are into that. I would have preferred a simple on-off switch. Update: It worked just fine for about three weeks. I was very happy with it. However, a few days ago it stopped grinding before it was finished. It displayed "Error 2." The troubleshooting guide said the solution was to clean the grinding mechanism and explained how to do it. I have cleaned it spotlessly for well over a dozen times to no avail. It refuses to operate properly. After every cleaning it will grind for three or four seconds and then cut off. So, the cleaning does absolutely no good. Apparently, its motor is extremely weak and clogs if it makes contact with a random coffee bean. It was a great coffee grinder for three weeks. Now it is a piece of trash that needs to be discarded. What a disappointment.

I was looking for a grinder for my Breville coffee machine and tried a couple of other options - none worked until I got this one. By default, it remembers the last grind setting, so you don't have to re-set it every time, and there's programming (which I've never used) - that's pretty much all you need for your daily use. The included portafilter holder is an amazing time-saver and super convenient. Grind is pretty consistent to my not-so-picky eye - some super-skilled coffee connossier would probably see it differently, but I'm pretty happy with it. There's also the internal burr grind size adjustment, which is set to the coarsest value by default, so if you need a finer setting, there's room for that. But the feature I'm most happy about is the anti-static system. It really works, and there are no lumps at all after grinding - that's a rare thing in this price range. Oh, and it's quieter than the competition, too. All in all, I'm super happy with the grinder, and it should be enough for all the non-pro coffee lovers.

I have recently been going further down the coffee rabbit hole and decided to purchase a countertop burr grinder. After extensive research, I stopped on the KitchenAid Coffee Grinder KCG8433BM. This grinder is not cheap, but the layout and application seemed to be up there with some of the best. I was not wrong! I love that you can individually set the time, the grinder size and the cup amount. I like the digital display and that everything is laid out in a neat order. The grinder is pretty easy to clean and everything works as it should, The build quality is up there, as with most Kitchen Aid appliances. During the grind process, the machine is pretty quiet, when you're used to a thundery portable grinder. When you go down this rabbit hole, you will hear that the grind size and quality is one thing that needs to be spot on. I am no coffee aficionado, but this machine seems to deliver in both those areas. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone that is going down this path. Longevity is an area I cannot comment on, and that is always an issue with an item that has moving parts. All I can say is that it seems very well put together and as long as you take care of it, and clean it regularly, then I'm sure it will continue on with the grind!
