STENCILIT® Herringbone Simple Wall Stencil - XL Stencil 22x40 in, Geometric Wall Stencils for Painting Large Pattern, Modern Large Wall Stencils

I was apprehensive about using this as I’m not the most patient person. My accent wall is 16’W x 13’H so I knew I had a herculean project ahead of me. I was armed with painters tape, 4” roller, brush, level, wet cloth, ladder and the stencil. Well, it took me 5 hours and it was so easy and so much fun to see the room transforming with every row completed. AND not one mistake!! 9 columns, 5 rows, the stencil held up really well and I didn’t wash it once. I think if you use a thin layer of paint the build up isn’t bad. No bleeding, it was a perfect project. Stencil cleaned up well after, ready to be used for my next project. My room looks completely different, I used gold metallic on an alabaster white wall. Now I’m going to have fun redecorating the whole space. Great way to spend a lazy Sunday! If I can do it so can you!! Wonderful sturdy product!!

This stencil comes with clear instructions which helped me with the process. I used as little paint as possible with a foam roller (very important). You can also use paint markers but that may be more time consuming for a large wall. I washed the stencil after every 5 uses and it becomes a disaster of paint strands everywhere but it cleans up pretty decent. You have to clean it otherwise the paint starts to get all over your hands and then transfers to the wall. It's a process worth doing because it looks amazing. I did one accent wall within 2 hours as I have an open Living room/dining room and wanted to create a "centerpiece." I plan to use this in the bathroom too. Very happy with the results.

My first time doing it and it wasn’t that bad. I will need to touch up some spots, but that is fine. I was very careful with the amount of paint, but still had some leaking. It would be very helpful if they send more cuts to do the cornes and small spaces.

This stencil was super easy to use due to the lining up cutouts on the corners of the stencil. You absolutely have to make sure you have VERY little paint on your roller. I made sure to roll out any excessive paint on my roller first on a spare piece of cardboard. And I very lightly would start the rolling process in a few separate spots to ensure I didn't have too much paint on one part of the stencil. I did wash it once before completing the entire wall. I used a spatula type piece of plastic, in the bathtub, with warm water and used the flat piece to scrape off the dried paint like you would use a shovel to shovel snow on a driveway (trying to give a visual). That is how I easily cleared my stencil.

The stencil felt sturdy and was good quality. This was my first stencil project, and it definitely tried my patience. I don’t know that I would recommend it for first time users. I was luckily on vacay and had plenty of time. This wall took about 2-3 hours. I ended up cutting the stencil in half at the end to paint the area around the electrical wiring. Next time I am buying a second stencil to make the process faster. Make sure to even out the paint on your foam roller by rolling it on paper towels 2-3x before you try painting the wall. Otherwise it will bleed through and you will spend way too much time touching up. I watched a few you tubes and the videos on the Stencilit site. I used push pins and painters tape to keep it where I needed it. That worked out well. Thanks hubby for the tip about the pins! I also wore vinyl gloves and pushed the stencil flat when I needed to. Make sure you have plenty of time, don’t rush, and maybe have a glass of wine nearby. If you start to lose patience, walk away…sip your wine…get a snack, and tackle it again! If it doesn’t work out, paint over it! Good luck!

Beautiful stencil. Disclaimer this was my first time using a stencil, so I’m sure there is a learning curve I read a review here to be careful with using too much paint as it will bleed and they were right. I also read people with textured walls may have some issues so I took that into consideration. Because I have textured walls it was hard to get the stencil completely flush with the wall, I used a foam brush and just dabbed the paint and had minimal issues. When I used too much paint on the foam brush it would bleed. Once I figured it out I got the hang of it. Lines aren’t perfect but I don’t care, it adds character. Only annoying issue I can across was when I would remove the stencil from the wall there would be paint on the back so I would have to wipe it before moving to the next section. Overall it was straight forward and I can’t wait to stencil more things!

It got the job done! But it really is difficult to keep it from bleeding. Looks great far away!

These stencils are a room changer and so easy/quick to do. We receive a lot of compliments but everyone thinks it’s wallpaper. I bought these stencils for an accent wall and loved how they turned out so I did several walls with this herringbone pattern. My advice is to use a small paintbrush (like a brush for watercolor painting versus a wall paint brush) because you literally dab the lines. If you drench the lines with paint, it bleeds everywhere and you may need to repaint the wall color and start the stencil again. I did this blue wall that is 9 ft high x 8 ft wide using 1/4 cup of light grey paint for the lines. You need to use painters tape to make the stencil stay up until you’re done. Once you apply the herringbone lines, it’s best to let it dry for about 5 mins before removing the stencil and moving to the next section. If you don’t wait for the paint to dry, you may get the paint that went on the back of the stencil on the next section you move the stencil to. Waiting is worth it else you have a lot of touch-ups to do. If the back of the stencil starts to get too much paint on it, use a warm wet towel to wipe it off. Dry it before placing it back on the wall. In case you are still hesitating, this wall (my first) took me about 1.5 hours to complete. So if you don’t like the colors, it’s an easy changeout. I recommend selecting either a darker wall color with lighter line colors or lighter wall color with darker lines (trying this next).
