Double Play Doozie Spirea Shrub is a hardy, low-maintenance deciduous shrub thriving in USDA zones 3-8. Growing to a compact 24-36 inches in height and width, it offers vibrant red foliage in spring and continuous purple-red blooms through fall. Its seedless, non-invasive nature channels energy into prolific flowering, while being drought-tolerant and deer-resistant. Ideal for containers, landscapes, and accents, this organic shrub ships dormant for optimal health and is perfect for professionals seeking a stunning, hassle-free garden upgrade. ## Description Spirea is an old landscape staple, so what could one do that could possible earn it superlatives? Well, seedless and non-invasive would be a start; non-stop blooming would be even better. And these are exactly what makes Double Play Doozie spirea the most beautiful, innovative, ground-breaking spirea to ever grace a landscape. Like all of the Double Play® spirea series, the show begins in early spring, when the foliage emerges in blazing brilliant color – in this case, deep red. By late spring, the flowers begin to emerge, a bright, glowing purple-red that truly sings in the landscape. And as summer comes on, the show doesn’t stop: it just keeps flowering, and flowering, and flowering. Because it produces no seeds, it puts all of its energy into flowering! It does it all with the same good looks, drought tolerance, and deer resistance that you expect from spirea, too. ## Features - Thrives in USDA zones 3-8 - Grows to mature size 24-36″ W x 24-36″ H - Full sun to partial shade - Deciduous – Foliage loss in winter and new growth in spring - Used in containers, landscapes, and as accents - Recommended spacing 24 inches - Botanical Name – Double Play Doozie Spirea Spiraea x - Low maintenance - Ships dormant winter through early spring - Plants are trimmed at times when shipped to promote plant health ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B08KTVCBJ4 | | Best Sellers Rank | #80,162 in Patio, Lawn & Garden ( See Top 100 in Patio, Lawn & Garden ) #1,062 in Flower Plants & Seeds | | Brand Name | Proven Winner | | Color | Red to Purple Flowers | | Customer Reviews | 4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars (244) | | Expected Blooming Period | Spring to Fall | | Expected Plant Height | 24 inches | | Expected Planting Period | Year Round | | Indoor Outdoor Usage | Outdoor | | Item Type Name | Spirea | | Item Weight | 8.8 pounds | | Manufacturer | Proven Winners | | Manufacturer Part Number | Double Play Doozie | | Material Features | Organic | | Model Number | Double Play Doozie | | Moisture Needs | Moderate Watering | | Number of Items | 1 | | Number of Pieces | 1 | | Plant or Animal Product Type | Shrub & Hedge | | Product Care Instructions | Water before planting• Plant in Full Sun• Dig hole 3X the width of pot• Back-fill and plant 1″-2″ above soil level• Water and add more soil if needed• Mulch plants• Fertilize in early spring | | Soil Type | Sandy Soil | | Style Name | Doozie Spirea | | Sunlight Exposure | Full sun to partial shade | | UPC | 093474147371 | | USDA Hardiness Zone | 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, | | Unit Count | 1 Count | ## Product Details - **Brand:** Proven Winner - **Color:** Red to Purple Flowers - **Expected Blooming Period:** Spring to Fall - **Expected Planting Period:** Year Round - **Indoor/Outdoor Usage:** Outdoor - **Item Weight:** 8.8 pounds - **Material Feature:** Organic - **Sunlight Exposure:** Full sun to partial shade - **Unit Count:** 1 Count ## Images ![Proven Winners 2 Gal. How about other animals?** A: So far, no. I replaced some Annabelle hydrangea which were brutalized by deer with this shrub and they have not touched it. **Q: Will this plant do well in a location that faces east? (Woods behind it, zone 5)** A: I'm in zone 5. I have these Spirea planted behind my house, south facing. Spirea are pretty hardy so you should be okay to plant there. These are really pretty and the three I planted made it through the winter no problem and all are in full bloom right now. Love the bright pink flowers! **Q: How tall does this shrub get** A: Received these very healthy plants promptly. I have them planted and looking forward to the color they will add to two different gardens. Specs on the card say it will grow 2-3 feet tall and wide. The description on the card was "petite shrub" and size perfect for areas I wanted to use them in. Love spirea for the ease in care and the new plants coming out are fantastic. **Q: Can you tell me what this plant looks like when it's not blooming, does it stay green?** A: It does not stay green. It loses all foliage through winter. ## Frequently Bought Together - 2 Gallon Proven Winners Spirea Double Play Doozie Shrub - 2 Gal. Obsession Nandina Shrub - Proven Winner Pugster Amethyst 2 Gal.
