Tormek T4 Water Cooled Sharpening System + HTK 806 Hand Tool Kit

Tormek T4 is the smaller sibling of the T8. The grinding wheels are 200mm diameter rather than 250mm, its duty cycle is 30 minutes per hour rather than continuous and there’s less choice of grinding wheels. The cost saving over the T8 are significant. The only other difference is with the smaller wheel of the T4 you need to take much more care that you don’t inadvertently grind the tool holders. Being low speed, water cooled and driven by a friction wheel, it’s inherently safe. As well as being safer than a bench grinder you can’t overheat (and anneal/soften) hardened steel tools/knives. The T4 on its own is next to useless, you might as well buy way cheaper wet stones instead. What makes the Tormek system so easy to use is the range of jigs and holders available. You need a selection and unfortunately they’re expensive but the bundled kit will get you going for household stuff including knives - you’ll need additional jigs for drill bits, wood chisels and planer blades. The jigs are all stunningly engineered and well made. It’s so easy to be up and running and sharpening knives that you can shave with minimal learning curve - minutes rather than years! The T4 machine itself isn’t exactly rocket science, it’s simply a motor driving a grinding wheel and a leather covered strop wheel and the cost of the base machine does seem rather high. It’s the jigs that you fit to the machine that give it the value, when you look at them they’re very well made indeed and are actually good value for money. Tormek’s documentation and YouTube channel are excellent so everything is easy to use. If you are skilled at sharpening with wet stones then the Tormek system is not for you, you’d be wasting your money. If you’re not skilled, want really sharp blades and have the money, then it’s an excellent product, it’s just that ease and performance costs. To save money an option I’ve not tried could be to use the Tormek jigs on a cheap copy machine. Obviously you’d have to do the research yourself on compatibility but fundamentally the Tormek tools slide/rest/fix to a height adjustable 12mm steel bar.

I originally bought this with the plane/chisel attachment. I then bought the hand tool case and tt50 truing stone. Some of my chisels are not square so i found i needed to be careful in the alignment of the chisel to ensure it was sharpened correctly. You definitely need the truing tool to keep the stone in good condition. I also have a 2.5lb axe thats about 24" long handle and was concerned that this would be too small to sharpen it but after trying and failed with the the rag method the axe needed a complete regrind and the t4 was perfect for getting a really keen edge on it. In addition to plane blades and chisels and axe i have also used this to sharpen my swiss army pocket knives and kitchen knives and wood marking knife. This is an ideal starter kit only requiring a few other attachments. The storage case keeps everything tidy and easy to access. Brilliant bit of kit to keep all tools sharp.

Wer Spaß am Messer schleifen hat, oder auch gern Schafe Werkzeuge und Äxte etc in seinem Haushalt wissen möchte darf auf dieses geniale schärfsystem nicht verzichten. Ich habe lange mit mir gehatert, und auch günstigere Alternativen von Einhell oder scheppach ausprobiert, alles andere aber bisher immer nach dem Installieren direkt wieder zurückschicken müssen, weil die Qualität einfach nur miserabel war. Das doch etwas hochpreisige Tormek Schleifsystem, ist wohl das einzige was wirklich hält was es verspricht. Ich mache auch selbst Messer und Äxte und kann guten Gewissens die T-4 und für vielbenutzer auch die T-8 Empfehlen. Die Schleifergebnisse sprechen einfach für sich. (SIEHE Bilder) Meine Empfehlung ist, sich allerdings vorher auf dem YouTube-Kanal von Tormek einige Videos anzusehen, und die Anleitung sehr genau zu lesen, wenn man sich an die von Tormek gegebenen Tipps und Anweisungen hält und etwas geschick besitzt/ ist diese schleifsystem eine Großartige Investition.

Wie erwartet super. Messer sind sehr scharf. Es ist die beste Schleifmaschine. Muss man haben. 10 von 10 Punkten.

Läuft sehr ruhig und rund. Durch die einfache Befestigung der Schleifscheiben, kann die zweiten Scheibe schnell entfernt werden. Somit können dann auch grössere Gegenstände geschliffen werden. Ich habe verschiedene Werkzeuge geschliffen - Kaufempfehlung, auch wenn nicht billig.

Sehr gute Bedienung und Hand habe. Hält was versprochen wird. Die Werkzeuge werden sau scharf bei genauer Einhaltung der Bedienungsanleitung
