The magnets are very strong, and the plastic is resistant to scratches. The pieces themselves are a fair bit smaller than I expected, but that doesn't detract from their fun. The only concern I'd have is rust of the magnets if exposed to water over time, based on an old set of bucky balls that I have. So far nothing has changed but if exposed to enough water I'd worry for rust. Barring that, I'd highly recommend to children and adults or really anyone in need of a fun fidget or mind-easer that just wants something to fill the time. Well worth the buy. It wouldn't be any different even when they are 14** A: My understanding is that it's against regulations to give magnets over a certain strength to young kids because there's a risk, from the combination of the maturity level and the strength of the magnets, they could have them attach through their hand and cause damage or something.
