Grip was buried in one of his textbooks when his roommate entered and told him that the dean of students needed to speak to him.As he strode across the University of Michiganโs campus, he couldnโt recall any recent infractions that might have triggered the summons, but he soon learned that it wasnโt a question of anything he had done. The dean informed him that his father had been murdered in a hideous fashion in St. Louis. When Grip left Ann Arbor, he wasnโt returning to seek vengeance on those who had killed his father. He was going to return and dismantle every bit of his fatherโs business empire and when he left the city far behind, the only place where anyone could read the name of Lawrence Preston Taylor would be on his gravestone. Review: Gripping Old Western Tale With a Touch of Romance set in the late 1880โs. Enjoy! - This 398-page old western tale with more than a touch of romance was the best one that I have read by this author. I did find the poor editing a bit annoying, but am willing to overlook that because C. J. Petit is exceptionally good at developing both his characters and the story as a whole. โGrip Taylorโ is another enthralling tale that held my interest from beginning to the satisfying ending. At 7, Gripโs multimillionaire father, sent him to a military academy. His mother died before he really got to know her and his father was a cruel criminal who loved nobody except himself. While 25-year old Grip Taylor was studying for his doctorate degree in Engineering, he learned that his father was murder in a horrifying manner. While Grip did not wish his fatherโs demise, he understood the motives of the killers and did not care if the perpetrators were found or not. Knowing how evil his father was, Gripโs intention was to dismantle his fatherโs estate and give at least half of his more than 4 million dollar inheritance to charity. He wanted to move from St. Louis, Missouri to Ogden, Utah, buy land, build a home, and risk his life to help those who had been bullied and left without hope. His mission was to remove any trace of his fatherโs name, Lawrence Preston Taylor, except on his tombstone. When he discovered a birth certificate of a young lady, named Julia, in his fatherโs secret room and safe with the name of the father missing and the mother, Charlotte Marley had been fired by Grips father while she was still pregnant with, Julia, Grip became suspicious. Grip was puzzled about why his father had this birth certificate in his safe unless he was actually the babyโs father. At any rate, Grip believe she might be his half sister and was determined to find her and give Julia her inheritance is she was his sister. Accordingly, he hired the Pinkerton to locate her. Learning that she was living in Kansas City, Missouri, he traveled there and unknowingly meets a beautiful woman, in a Kansas City restaurant who happens to be Julia. Julia lived only a few block away with her auntโs family. Grip and Julia fell in love and both wished that they could learn who her father really is so they can develop either a romantic relationship or settle for a close brother and sister friendship. As the story develops, we learn that although Grip has never shot or killed anyone before, but thankfully, he loves guns and knives of all sorts and becomes an expert with each. His life will depend on that expertise when he faces ruthless professional killers while helping other. Grip develops his new homestead, protects others, tends to his horses and dogs, as he prepares to relocate trusted employees, Julia, and Juliaโs family to their new homes on his ranch in Utah. There are plenty of bad guys, villains, gunfights in this mesmerizing late 1880โs action-packed old Western tale. C. J. Petit is a wonderful storyteller who I really enjoy and recommend to family, friends, and others who love a spellbinding western with a bit of romance. Enjoy! Review: Good Book - I have enjoyed all of Mr Petits books including this one. He always has an interesting twist, a bit of romance and a very likable hero. I will read more of his books.

A very excellent story and adventurous book.
It is quite evident that this author is not only highly skilled but also very much enjoyed creating this story and all it's characters. The story is written about a very wealthy but also a very selfish and mean spirited man with a criminal mind who goes to no limits to advance his wealth and kingdom. When this man assaninated his son then takes over all his wealth and through great disgust of his father strives to correct all his fathers terrible traits. Then he also meets a very pretty young lady who he instantly loves not only because of her beauty but also because of her great personality. Grip also uses his new found wealth to help people who are less fortunate and at the same time bullied but people with wealth and power. Our Author then goes to write an incredible ending.. A really great story.

Most moving book so far! Every page a thriller ,with occasional tears and amazement!
Loved every part of this captivating novel that was sprinkled with interesting history, especially railroads, law enforcement, guns, horses, and family delimmas! So much of the historical references became so authentic that I often marveled at the obvious knowledge of the author. Being a history and antique gun enthusiast, I was amazed when Grip met and befriended John Moses Browning, even mentioning his being a Mormon! After a short internet search, I verified many of the author's comments about Browning. C.J.Petit certainly moved me to be an avid fan of his writing, characters, and outlook! GOD BLESS him!

Fortunate I have had the opportunity to read a large number of Mr. Petit's outstanding western masterpieces but this is definitely one of his very best. I was hooked on Grip Taylor immediately, and the excitement never abated from beginning to end of this very touching story.
Most definitely another five star extravaganza of unending excitement and adventures of one of Mr. Petit's outstanding descriptive western folklore stories! This is probably his most captivating story I have had the opportunity to follow, and he definitely needs to start a follow up immediately. Grip, raised in the life of luxury was never infatuated with his wealth, and his Dad never really spent any time with him. He was well schooled, but no family love was present. Grip's Dad was murdered, while he was away at school, and being the only child inherited millions of dollars which you will have to read this compassionately outstanding, and very entertaining, western masterpiece to follow through with the outstanding results. Most definitely recommend this facinatingly family oriented series of unending excitement and adventures as Grip is determined to use his wealth in so many ongoing exploits, that you will not want to put the book aside until the final paragraph has been read. Please, don't miss reading about this compassionately motivated character, as his exploits are worthy of your time!!!๐

Maybe should be 5 stars except for the repetition and the the story dragged on for 3/4 of the book
I really like the book and the ending. The love story was fun and what action there was turned out to be well done. Grip was lucky to not run into some real quick draw bad men. I would think C.J Petit could write a series using the Grip Taylor character as a temporary U. S. Marshall. But probably not to be. I hope you enjoy the ending as much as I did.

All Good
Out of the 69 books listed I know I have read at least 56 and I believe more. I have enjoyed them all. One of the ones I felt close to was Slow John. I did cry a lot through that one. My eldest brother was born with several birth defects and always loved at home. There wasn't many options way back then but he surpassed many of the restrictions the doctors had predicted. He walked. Would die by 30 , 40 at latest. After my parents died he lived with my husband and I. He was 59. He lived with us for 13 years and was 71 years young at the time of his death. I say young because mentally he was about a 7 year old. Could barely talk, had had seizures for years. I could read Slow John again and would still cry. My brother's name was Euell but we called him Sonny. Thank you for all your wonderful books.

Greed vs Happiness
When Gripโs father has been murdered , Grip did the unthinkable, he sold up everything to move out west. Thatโs where this story really begins. Slow to start with but in true Petit form , this book is great reading

Enjoyable relaxing read
Grip starts off slowly in a city setting rather than the wild west, however it turns into an entertaining and fun read. Not your typical western novel but provides great story line.

Excellent book
A very good read. A few of the usual cliches are there but the story tries to be a little different and mostly succeeds.

Easy to read. Looking forward to the latest.
Have read all of the books to date. All of them were easy to read and had human warmth. The rightious path of doing good with family involvements. Also the love of guns and horses and respect for both.
