Nature's Bounty Selenium 200 mcg, 100 Tablets

Natures Bounty Selenium is working well for me. I supplement with it every day. We get some selenium from eating meats, dairy and whole grains, but it is still a good idea to supplement with it. If grains are grown in soils without sufficient selenium, they will be low in it. Even if selenium is present in the soil, many other factors like PH effect how much is absorbed by the plant. Selenium in meat seems to be more consistent. The National institute of Health says selenium may prevent some cancers. It showed as much as a 31 percent decreased cancer risk, and 45 percent cancer mortality risk. The reference for that is "Dennert G, Zwahlen M, Brinkman M, Vinceti M, Zeegers MP, Horneber M. Selenium for preventing cancer. Cochrane Database Syst Rev 2011:CD005195." It mentions bladder cancer as one of the ones it might prevent. I had a bladder tumor removed ten years ago, that was malignant. I have had no recurrence of it, but you know how cancer often comes back years later. So I do as my doctor says and take my supplement. The NIH also says it is a good supplement for heart health. Tests showed that 300 mcg or more a day would raise HDL. My HDL is over 100, so the selenium supplement may have helped. Years ago my HDL was around 60. Here is the reference on that. "Rayman MP, Stranges S, Griffin BA, Pastor-Barriuso R, Guallar E. People who just got their selenium from a multi vitamin containing a smaller amount of selenium, did not experience an increase in HDL. The amount of selenium in your blood decreases with age. So some investigation has been done to see if supplementing with it helps prevent cognitive decline. Results there are inconclusive. Also it can evidently be of some help with thyroid problems, but two large studies showed conflicting results. It did seem to improve quality of life. I like the fact that Natures Bounty selenium is from brewers yeast, a natural source. Brewers yeast is like a food, and not like taking a chemical. I am more comfortable using it. I received this product at a discount or for free in return for an honest review. It is a small pill that is easy to take. I am completely satisfied with it. The price is excellent also. I will not hesitate to buy it again.
