However, our minds have been shaped with this perception for decades. I truly can relate to how much the food pyramid and low-fat thinking has been part of my mentality towards eating. As I even consider eating fat, as he has revealed is healthy for us, I find my mind is so indoctrinated that I shouldn't! Thus, the value of this book, which I ordered when it came out this February, 2016. This book contains much of the same information from the Fat Summit, plus helpful and practical information, ideas, and recipes. The book delves into how bad sugar is for us, as well, and discusses all our food categories and how they affect our bodies. He discusses types of fat, that all fats are not equal, that our body fat isn't just the fat we ate, how different fats do different things in our bodies. It was a lot of new information for me. This book isn't a fad diet book. It's presenting a paradigm shift to our standard American diet, and presents, proved by much research, how and why our typical diet is harming us, as well as how to eat healthy and about including fat in our diet. I'm much more solidly convinced to get away from processed foods and sugar, as I read this. And with his advice I'm trying his ideas for adding the right fat into our diet, and have a better understanding of what fats to avoid. Dr. Hyman is using this information to help his patients get thin, reverse heart disease and type 2 diabetes, and more. We haven't had a chance to try that, but knowing that he has success with his patients I would recommend people with these issues check out this book. All of the information is supported by much research. He presents both information and a program and recipes for changing our eating habits based on the research. This book is written in a very readable way. He has a nice sense of humor, too, and is very personable. I pick up from him a heart to get this information out to the masses. As I read the book, I'm finding my mind is changing in my perception of not only fat, but also sugar. In trying the recipes which incorporate eating more fat, and only real food (vs processed) and in trying to follow his guidelines, I'm experiencing I can break away from sugar more easily. Dr. Hyman's approach is a combination of paleo with vegetarian. Which he calls "Pegan". ( He does offer guidance for eating fat in a vegetarian diet, too.)
