Can the keyboard fold back behind to use as tablet or will the keyboard be damaged?

Technically, yes - but that exposes the keyboard, making it the out-facing back side of the tablet, and you’d be pressing on the keys while holding it. BUT, if you simply separate the keyboard folio, the iPad is still enclosed in the rubberized inner case, and you can use it as a portrait style tablet. That flexibility is the main reason I bought mine, and I LOVE it! Brilliant design!

Why did my package come without the charging cord? For $100 you would hope to at least get everything that should be included inside the box.

The cable is in a bit of cardboard on the sude of the box. Mine did not have a lip to open it so I had to pull the cord out from the opening. The contents for my box only list the keyboard and instructions, no mention of a cord. My box says the keyboard is good for 1, 2 ,3 generation Ipad Pro 11, but Best Buy lists it as working for the 4th gen, but I can't get the bumper cover on.

Does the apple pencil stick to the case magnetically, or is the flap needed to secure it down?

Answer is both. The pencil magnetically attaches and the flap is also magnetically attached to the side of the case to guard the pencil. But the flap is not that strong and is easily defeated with a light brush say coming out of your backpack. I’ve knocked the pencil off a couple of times already. Not that impressed with the protection of my $130 writing instrument.

Does this case have something to protect the screen when closed?

No. You need to add a screen protector, which is a good idea because when you are not using it with the keyboard, but separately, the screen would be exposed and only the front of the iPad is protected. In fact, I rarely use it with the keyboard these days--I dropped the iPad today, but since it was in the case and had the screen protector, it was not damaged in anyway.
