AMAZING!!!
this headset is just incredible. the set up was confusing at first but don't let that deteriorate you from buying this. it comes with instruction (pics in it really help, made it much easier to plug in) that show you step by step to plug in, set up settings and what you need in order to make use of its full potential. the complaint about there being a hissing is present but that is just electricity running. also don't turn on the expander because it will really be noticeable and annoying. there is a sticker on the cable that says the expander will interfere with the dss. trust me it does. so i just leave it off. the surround sound really does work. i find myself flinching when i have the bass and volume pretty high whenever some one tries to snipe me or whenever there is a helicopter flying overhead i duck. i actually heard a heli and could not tell if it was outside or not. i removed the headset and heard nothing. i put them back on and still could not confirm it. i took them off again and heard nothing again. this headset is bad ass. i also use them for watching/listening to music and videos all the time. im doing it right now. now i will address the supposed problem of one of the ear cups breaking off upon opening the package. do not twist these like they are worth $20. i don't know, i think this is just me but, i feel like when i twist these i also feel that I'm going to break them. the angle that they twist at feels weird. but then i am always careful with these because i got them for $90 and they feel $150. to recap what i just said, don't twist these the way you want. twist them the way the headset wants. next, there is plenty of cable to go across any room. this cable is massive in length. my room is only a 10*12 and my set-up only requires i unwrap only a couple feet. the rest is wrapped up in a velcro strap that it comes with. the dss i have to say does make a slight but noticeable difference in the sound quality. if you are a casual user, what are you doing using this, this is for the hard working people who deserve to use this. they will notice the difference. but in all seriousness if you are not accustomed to using equipment like this you will be stunned by the performance of the headset alone. when using the dss you might not notice its on. as a fair warning, do not use the bass on the cable and the dss as it will provide to much bass even when the volume is on at a comfortable level. next to talk about the mic. the mic is actually better than i had expected. my friends have told me i needed a headset and i got these and they were stunned about the quality of my voice. there is a chat boost function that is built in so when the game volume (excessive explosions, constant engines reving up, guns firing) is up, so are your friends voices. i have to say it really does work if...the bass is not up all the way from both the expander and the dss and the volume is not all the way up either. or else the headset just rattles your brain. but no one uses it like that all the time so that i guarantee will not be a problem. the mic boom itself does twist and bend and will stay in place. if i were making this headset i would have made it so that way the mic boom can come off. but it doesn't. i thought it wouldn't be a problem but in the long run the mic boom gets kind of cumbersome. if you twist it up (parallel to the head band) and take it off then the cup won't be able to rest up against the other cup. the mic boom has to be out in order for it to be resting comfortably on itself. one thing i also thought would be nice would be a little foam to cover the mic so that way you don't have to hear every little wisp from your mouth or nose or window or fan. i found a way around the wisp from your nose. twist it inwards towards your face and bring the mic in closer to your face and you won't hear your own breathing. the ear cups are very very comfortable. they are indeed over-sized, plenty of mesh padding and noise canceling. however...if you wear glasses then you might be disappointed because because for me they hurt my ears after a couple hours of gaming. it gets so bad that i have to remove one or the other and settle. then my ears will hurt for a day or two afterwards. but i you don't wear glasses then these will definitely be extremely comfortable. also if your glasses are wider than your head (not resting right up against your skull) then your glasses will lift the cups and let in just a little outside noise. you won't notice until after a few hours and you remove your glasses and put the headset on. (to me it feels like a major difference but i still love these). just as a little tip, you must use the digital optical output cable in order to use the chat function. i thought that with just an hdmi cable i wouldn't have to worry about that but you have to use it to use the mic. another tip is when you use the headset on a computer you only need the usb to hear, you dont need the 3.5 jack to hear. remember that it is usb powered. if you plan on using this with a music player then you have to plug this into a usb port and the 3.5 jack into the music player. once you receive this in the mail you will throw away all doubt about this being flimsy and be sure it is sturdy. oh and one more thing. the headband has a cushion on top and bottom and the extension for the big-headed is metal and plastic. metal on top and black plastic on bottom. i am confident about the rigidness of this item %100. i know that was long but i wanted to cover everything so you can make an informed decision. happy shopping!!!

For PS3 Awsome, for PC.... What a Pain!!
I have had the product for a few days now, and overall am quite satisfied with amount of cabling supplied with the unit, and the preset sound quality of the headphones for the PS3. Only thing that is adjustable is the volume, mic volume, and Bass... Very bright and clear sound, can here so many details in the game, VERY easy to setup, and definitely enough lentgh with supplied cords to be able to sit 10" or more away from screen. Headphones have seperate controls, which are great so you are not running back to the little external soundcard. No tweaking needed for the PS3, just work exactly as hoped. Just FYI, I have had my experience with studio quality headphones... Pioneers, Sony's etc... These are super colored headphones, and they are extremely comfortable, I forget I had them on. They feel cheap, but I think that comes with the sacrifice of the weight. As far as the PC side goes. I have it connected to a 64 bit Win7 machine. I am using a laptop with NO spdif interface so I bought the corresponding USB to optical breakout from Turtle Beach called the Micro II. I will explain that in another review. Problem is, when you connect the DSS for power, then you connect the Micro II, there are 3 devices for audio. The software for the micro 2 works, but reports that the Micro II isn't connected due to the connected DSS. You have to go into you device manager, and remove the drivers for the USB headset which are for the DSS. Unplug the Micro II, and insert again.. Software will finally report 1 micro II installed. from this point, IF you are watching a bluray, or want to take advantage of the 5.1/7.1 you have to go to control panel/sound, and select the optical portion of the Micro II. If you just want to listen to music from Win Media Player, you have to select Speakers in the list of audio devices :o !!! """"Super important, you have to configure the audio for the Micro II to be in 5.1/7.1, so you'll have to click the "configure" tab on the audio device menu panel. So, all in all it was not worth the hassle to even try to get the 5.1 to work off the laptop because the PLII works just as well. Sound quality improved marginally better with Dolby Digital, but not enough for me to go through the hassle of this everytime I want to watch a movie.. All in all, it is a great setup, sounds great, you can hear great detail of things, and crank it without irrating poeple in the house or where ever, although the muffs allow sound to escape, it could irritate people in the immediate area.

I bought the Turtle Beach dpx21 out of necessity as my trusty 10 year old 5.1 amp/receiver had broken down. They were ordered Thursday morning and arrived the next day (thankyou Amazon) Let me say that the 5.1 sound on these headphones is amazing. If it wasnt for the fact that I`m aware of the foam earpieces on my head (which are very comfy and light) I could swear that the sound I am hearing is coming from the corners of my living room where my amp speakers used to sit.The base is suitably meaty and the volume is nice and LOUD.When chatting to Xbox friends the chat boost automatically adjusts the chat volume which is great for when the game volume gets loud.If you`re looking for a quality set of 5.1 headphone I would heartily recommend these.I love them

I had originally bought the DPX21 headset from a major retail store back in 2011. From day one, I was very pleased with it as I can use for all my gaming needs: PS3, XBox 360, and PC. You can connect the headset to either a digital or an analog ouput, which makes it very versatile. For XBox 360, I really like that the DPX21 comes with a cable to connect it to the control pad, to have voice chat. The sound is really good, and I appreciate the 7.1 simulation. On the downside, the headset does not seem very sturdy and resistant. My 4-year old son broke my original headset by simply trying to put them on his head. But, I liked the DPX21 so much that I bought another one from Amazon!
