How do you shut off the short loud signal every minute or two that is obnoxious and assume is meant to indicate battery working?

That could indicate you have a low battery. Shut-off the unit and then replace the internal 9V battery. Then you can turn the unit back on and the indicator should go away. If you need instructions on how to do this let visit our website and you can access the installation sheet. Or email us at sales@sti-usa.com.

If the door is opened in an emergency do the wires break away and if so can they be placed back?

The STI-6402 goes into alarm after given it's NC simulation. With the STI-6402 there will be (1) reed on board wired into the RS1 for the second door you will attach the additional reed in the hardware pack into the RS2. Each door will need to have the extra magnet along side each reed (wired magnet) and when they separate it goes into alarm. There is no disconnection of wires - visit this link to view it's install https://www.sti-usa.com/wp-content/uploads/6400Install.pdf.
