Q: Will the 4 inch work for the front speakers of a 1998 Audi A4 avant ?

Look at the specs on your Audi. If they have 4 inch speakers you should be able to make them fit. I put mine in a Kia and did have to drill some holes to mount, but they fit.

Q: What color are the grills that come with the speakers? Is the grill fabric?

if I'm not mistaken it don't come with the grill and if it did come with a grill I know I was in fabric cuz I bought another speaker almost the same style so I'm not too sure which one came with the grill or not but I know it wasn't fabric so

Q: how is the atop cover to speakers. no way to place the speaker and rim firmly. how,do u do it?

I Installed them in my car door behind the panel. Therefore, I had no need to use the covers. However, word of advice, I wouldn't recommend these speakers, after two months, they are sounding distorted or muffled.....they are trash my friend.

If your car has 6.5 inch speakers yes. However these speaker sound quite dull & hollow. You're better off going with a different brand.
