AmScope SM05 Barlow Lens for Stereo Microscopes, 0.5X

This is what you need if you're doing SMD soldering under the microscope. It increased the working distance between the bottom of the microscope and focal plane to about 165mm or so. Even though it reduces the magnification by half, you still have plenty of magnification for soldering and inspection needs. I think this barlow lens increases the working distance enough that you wouldn't need the 0.x35x lens to increase it further. I didn't note any obvious degradation in the image quality; the edges of the fields still appear to be in focus and it didn't seem to add any chromatic aberration. At least on my Amscope microscope, the LED illuminator ring is affixed above the original microscope objective lens, so it's possible to unscrew the barlow lens without much of a fuss if you find that you need more magnification. For my application, I've not needed to do this.

A perfect addition to my AmScope binocular scope for use in PCB assembly and repair. I can get enough magnification to see any detail, and still be able to zoom out and get a wide enough field of view for hand soldering. The image quality seems just as clear as with no Barlow lens installed. The only quibble I have is, on my scope, if the item you are focusing on has some depth or is raised off the work surface at all, in order to get clear focus when zoomed all the way out, I have to raise the Microsoft boom a little beyond it's maximum height. But that's not really the fault of this lens, just an FYI. The 0.7X lens might be a little better option because of that, but at the difference in price, this lens is fine.

This item is ideal for hand soldering using an AmScope SM system. Without this extender, there is very limited clearance between the objective and the object. I often found I had to tilt the head to get enough clearance for the soldering iron under the LED illumination ring. After installing this Barlow lens, I had to lift up the arm on the scope traveler mechanism almost to the top of it's mast to get good focus. The result is that I can sit up straight, and there is plenty of room between the circuit board and the light ring - no trouble at all!

This lens is used to halve the magnification of the objective lens while doubling the depth of field. This result is essential when working with electronic circuit repair or when you want to keep the entire target in focus without having to refocus frequently. The SM05 works as advertised. The only related drawback is when using the LED assembly option that attaches to the SM05 with a plastic adapter that threads into the lens housing's internal threads. The adapter's external threads do not fully engage with the lens housing's internal threads resulting in a loose attachment of the LED assembly. Consequently, a slight tap on the LED assembly may cause it to fall off the microscope. If this should happen, contact AmScope and request a replacement metal adapter.

I'm using this on a 50-year-old AO StereoStar stereoscopic microscope. My scope has a 47mm thread, so I had to 3d print a 47mm to 48mm adapter. The lens gives me a much larger distance from what I'm working on, a larger field of view, and the picture quality is superb. This is a great value for the money.

Installing the Barlow lens was kinda tedious .. the threads are very fine .. I pulled the head out of the mount and finally got it threaded in. The tolerances are very tight, which is fine .. just take extra care. The working distance is barely adequate, with both the rack and boom all the way up. I did loose maybe a quarter inch by adding a UV protection lens, to keep smoke and splatter out of the scope itself. On Amazon .. Fotodiox Metal Step Up Ring, Anodized Black Metal 48mm-49mm, 48-49 mm, and, Tiffen 49mm UV Protection Filter. For $15 bucks .. cheap insurance to keep "stuff" out of the scope lenses proper. I'll probably make a "riser" to raise the vertical column bar a couple of inches. Cheers!

Questa lente ti permette di aumentare la distanza di lavoro tra obiettivo del microscopio e oggetto su cui stai lavorando! Mio caso: Uso il microscopio per riparazioni di telefoni quindi mi serviva una distanza piu grande di lavoro. Con mio microscopio 7X45 avevo una distanza di lavoro di 8 centimetri! Con questa lente praticamente ho raddoppiato la distanza di lavoro 16.5 centimetri! Per uso che faccio io va benissimo! Bisogna prendere in considerazione il fatto che questa lente raddoppia distanza di lavoro,pero perdi zoom dal microscopio! Per mio che avevo zoom 7X45 dopo aver montato la lente di Barlow adesso ho 3,5X22,5! Per elettronica va bene,per micro-saldature,sia con stilo che con aria calda!

Esta lente reducira a la mitad tus aumentos pero verás al doble de distancia para poder trabajar con herramientas bajo el microscopio.
