I applied two coats of the seam sealant, after which I applied two coats of the Nikwax. I felt the rainfly and couldn't tell if any coating was on it, so I put 3 more coats on it, then it took on a waxy type of feel to it. I also applied both on the main body of the tent. About 3 months later during one of my outings it downed poured again with hard winds...not a single drop got into the tent! At the beginning of every season I reply the Nikwax but I only put on two coats because it still has that waxy feeling before I put on the fresh coats; I haven't noticed any degradation of the seam sealer which could be due to the Nikwax over top of it? I don't know, but so far it's holding up. Some readers might think that putting on 5 coats initially was an extreme overkill, perhaps, but I do know this, I no longer get wet, and none of my stuff gets wet, and for me that was more than worth it. Do I recommend this stuff? It says it's a wide mouth to facilitate pouring into the smaller containers to refill the sprayer jars. It would be a little heavy and hard for your hand to grip it. Awkward to handle but a spray hose similar to those found on bug sprays could be retrofitted to work, just drill a hole the size of the hose to fit thru. Remember to clean it out between uses, or it will clog the hose and sprayer. Likewise, it does a great job of cleaning my gear after each outing. **Q: Is this applied to outside or inside of tent rain shield? Is it necessary to also use seam sealant?** A: Are the seams leaking, or is the original seam sealant 9ld, peeling and/or cracking? If so, reapply seam sealant. Use the Nikwax according to its instructions. You definitely want the outside to be clean, waterproof and solar proof. If there are dirty spots inside, trry spot cleaning them as well. **Q: How much solution will this one bottle make?** A: The instructions say 2 parts of the product should be mixed with 5 parts of water.
