I bought this lock and needed to cut the shackle as my keys were at another job and I needed to use trailer it was on.

Who is to say that you actually have this problem, you could be looking for a method to take a trailer that does not belong to you. I will not comment--just call a locksmith and prove that you own the trailer.

There is a key. When you turn the key the whole base slides straight down and off.

What is the difference between this and the umax50? does anyone know?

i kinda screwed up my locking system on the umax 50 trying to turn the key with ice in the lock. the key pulled out without it being lined up properly. im gonna buy the umax100 because it looks like its protected from the elements better. on the umax 50 all i did was drill the hole out with a titanium drill bit and gave it a few whacks with a mallet and it came right off. i am in no way an experienced theif, just watched a few youtube video because i didnt feel like paying a lock smith and I couldnt pick it on the first few tries. im sure its more of a visual deterrent, but I'm going to upgrade to this model.
