What number screw fits into the hole on wall side? I don't want to use the ones that are included in the package it has terrible reviews on those!!

Less than 5.5MM diameter may be good.

What size drill bit do I use for the anchors?

Use drill bit size 16/64 if you purchased bracket size 4"x4". The hole will allow you to insert the provided anchor by hand (with a bit of effort) up until the stems then use a hammer to get it flushed against the wall.

Can they be painted? Do they take well to paint?

Not sure. Probably if you buy the spray paint for metal.

How much weight can the smaller anchors support? It only says up to 50 pounds. I need to use the smaller anchors. What is the weight limit?

I don’t know. I have them screwed directly into a wood wall. I would try and put them into a stud. 50 lbs is a lot for the small anchors.

These shelf support brackets are pretty sturdy! I was a bit hesitant of purchasing these because they didn't have the support bar going from one side to the other but these seem to be as sturdy as the other type and work out just right! It is nice that they came with the wall anchors and screws even though I did not use the wall anchors.
