Nicely made, easy to install disks and runs cool.
Having read mostly positive reviews, I bought two of these drives to house some old(ish) Western Digital Green JBOD disks that I pulled from my very old server after it failed a few weeks ago. Rather than go down the server or NAS route again I decided to simply attach the drives directly to PCs to provide a secondary, occasional backup as I already have a primary backup drive attached to each PC. This is where these caddies come in . It took all of two minutes to install the drives. The instructions aren't fantastic but it's a pretty intuitive design. Simply take the rear panel of by unscrewing two screws. This houses the power and USB connectors on the outside and the SATA connector on the inside. Connect the SATA connector to your drive, add the plastic spacers either side of the drive (these line up using the screw holes on the side of the drive) and push the drive back in to the case. Put the screws back in and tighten. Attach to your PC and away you go.As I write this review, I'm backing up two PCs and the drives have been spinning constantly for over two hours already. Because the case is aluminium it dissipates heat pretty well. The cases are warm to the touch but not hot and using CrystalDiskInfo I can see that both drives are running at a steady 41 degrees celcius which I'm happy with. Write speeds are OK as it supports USB 3.0. The kit includes a vertical stand which is quite useful for two reasons: 1. It takes up less desk space. 2. it means the case has less surface area in contact with the desk and more surface area exposed to the surrounding air which further helps dissipate heat.So far so good and I'll update in a few weeks when I've run another backup or two.

Reliable and Well-Built, with Room for Improvement
The Ennotek 3.5-Inch Aluminium SATA Hard Drive Enclosure is a solid product for anyone looking to repurpose a 3.5-inch HDD or SSD as external storage. It gets most things right and is a reliable option for regular use.Pros:Wide Compatibility: Works seamlessly with both HDDs and SSDs up to 12TB, making it suitable for large file backups or multimedia libraries.Fast Speeds: The USB 3.0 interface and UASP support provide quick and stable data transfers. I’ve had no issues accessing or transferring large files.Sturdy Build: The aluminum construction feels durable and helps with heat dissipation, keeping the drive cool during operation.Convenient Features: The auto-sleep function is a nice touch for energy saving, and the on/off switch provides easy power control.Cons:Setup Could Be Simpler: While the inclusion of screws and a screwdriver is appreciated, the assembly process takes a little time. A tool-free design would have been more convenient.Short Cable: The included USB cable is only 1 meter long, which might limit placement options depending on your setup.Power Adapter Size: The power adapter is a bit bulky, which might be inconvenient if you have limited outlet space.Overall, this is a reliable and well-built enclosure that delivers great performance for the price. A few minor improvements could make it even better, but it’s still a solid choice for external storage needs.

Very nice looking and easy to use.
I was looking for a caddy to house a 1tb WD HDD I salvaged from a network drive. Having read reviews of all the caddies on Amazon I decided to go for this one. On opening the box I was initially struck by the fact that it looked like a quality item. It was an absolute doddle to fit the HDD and get it up and running. The instruction leaflet was totally useless as it was for a different product altogether! It talked about fitting the drive into a sliding tray and this caddy does not have that! Despite the lack of any meaningful instructions it was not difficult to work out what to do. The only issues were 1. ensuring that the side rails were fitted the right way up and 2. bending the wires from the on off switch in order that the cover could be screwed on. The latter was not a problem but did need a bit of care. I use Linux and Chromebooks and it works a treat with both. I have tried it with Windows yet but do not anticipate any issues. Overall I am very pleased with it and will probably buy another for another HDD I have lying around. As I say, a very nice looking item and easy to use so if in doubt, go for one without hesitation.

Cheap and flimsy power adaptor
I had great hopes for this unit to aid in my increasing amount of 2TB hard drives backing up photos and software, it looked the part with its brushed aluminium case and light. The hard drive was a bit of a tight fit but certainly nothing to complain about, the big let down for me was the cheap mains adaptor. It has two fittings, one U.K. and the other was European or U.S. so its in two parts and spring - loaded "pins" push against one and other to make contact. This idea can only fail at best or produce a lot of heat and possible hazard IMHO, no matter how I tried I could not get the unit to work i.e. no voltage to the HDD case!Luckily I had a spare power adaptor from before, same 12 volts plus better current rating, it was too much hassle to return the item because of a faulty power supply because no doubt I would just get another flimsy P.S. unit.If the manufacturer sees this, for everyone`s sake supply a decent power supply unit - you will sell more units and have less complaints.A win - win for everyone!
