Unlike cheap guitar tuners, you can tune your guitar or stringed instrument to any key, like Eb or D. I think you can do non-standard Hz tunings, also, but I don't do that - not on purpose, at least. This is my second Snark. I also have the SN-5, which also works great. I gave that one to my kids and got another for myself. This one has the built-in metronome, which is a nice touch (I should use it more often!). For people who claim the device breaks easily, I think they much be way to rough on it. I twist mine all around, gently, depending on which guitar I'm tuning, and never have a problem. One warning: be sure to shut it off when not tuning. These things don't seem to power-off, at least not quickly enough for my tastes. I left my other one over night several months ago, and it still works fine, but you don't want to waste the battery. I have made my piece with that and have learned to truly appreciate how much easier it is to get that first low E string in tune. It is still best to tune the others to that now in tune E string so as to develop one's ear.
