A printer actually worth 5 stars at an unbeatable price! LOVE IT!
I have owned HP printers forever. Our old HP all in one was still going after 12 years but the scanner bed had gotten dirty and I also decided it was time to upgrade because I needed double sided printing and also the ability to print wirelessly from my iPhone and iPad. A nearby Office Depot was closing its doors and having a big blow out sale to get rid of all its inventory so I decided to go look at printers thinking I could get a screaming deal. I talked to one of the sales associates about my needs and she said this was a very popular model that offered all the features I want and then some. They had it marked down from $180 to about $153 on sale. Before I bought it I do what I always do and checked Amazon and was shocked to find that the exact same printer in the exact same package was only $99 with Prime! I bid farewell to Office Depot (no wonder they're closing) and went right home and ordered it! I have to say, so far I REALLY LOVE this printer! First of all, it was the easiest printer to set up EVER!! I mean, I truly couldn't believe it! I'm a gadget tech nerd (built my own PC) and was prepared to have to spend an hour getting it all unpacked, turned on, calibrated, set up on my network and also connected to my devices for wireless printing. That's what I'm used to. Set up of this printer BLEW MY MIND with how simple it was! Literally, you take it out of the box and remove all foam and plastic etc., plug it into the wall, press power, insert the ink (SO simple) and follow the instructions on screen to align the cartridges. Once it was aligned the touch screen informed me to go to hp.com/setup to download the drivers I would need. My computer/network automatically detected the printer and knew just what drivers I needed. Download and setup was a breeze! You can use the provided disk instead but I didn't even remove it from the sleeve. The one thing I would say about HP and their software is that they tend to over do it. My recommendation is to select the option that enables you to choose which additional programs you want installed instead of letting HP do it for you. I always get way more than I bargain for and end up uninstalling a lot of the "bloatware" programs that I don't use that just take up HD space like HP photo etc. I use photoshop. There is an option for just the basic drivers that you can select. Your printer will work just fine with those and you won't get blogged down with unwanted software. Either way works great though. I tried both. The driver setup took 5 minutes. Then I got on my iPhone and downloaded the HP ePrint app which IMMEDIATELY recognized and connected to my printer all on its own! You can use it to print from your photos, the web, email and the cloud. AWESOME!!! That was it! In about 12 minutes from the box I was completely set up, connect and printing! Here are some other things I love about this printer: - Fastest setup of any printer ever (yes I know I already mentioned this but it deserves repeating). No having to manually enter IP addresses or anything like that! - Design is very sleek and modern. I love the all black with little color screen! It's pretty sexy as printers go! - Small/slim profile. For everything this printer does and how well/quickly it does it, it really is quite small! WAY smaller than my old HP all in one! - Touch screen is really high quality! I often get frustrated with touch screens at check out stands and elsewhere because they're not very sensitive to your finger or pressing down in one spot causing a neighboring button to be selected. That is NOT the case with this touch screen. I find that it's very sensitive and accurate and also the display is crisp and beautiful! - AUTOMATIC DOUBLE SIDED PRINTING AND SCANNING. HALLELUJAH! - Printing is very fast and the print quality is excellent, even and especially with photos! - I LOVE that this printer only needs one cable (unless you want to use the fax feature as well) and works so well wirelessly! - Printing from the app on my mobile devices is my new favorite thing - Unlike my old printer, this guy is whisper quiet when it's printing. It's a little thing, but I live with an autistic 4 year old and a husband who sounds like he's calling in air support for a military strike when he talks on the phone so...sometimes the little things make a big difference! - Scan quality is really fabulous! Honestly, I rarely give 5 star reviews to things, but this printer really does deserve it, from price point to set up to functionality and features. I HIGHLY recommend this printer for all your in home office needs! And no, I didn't get it for free or at a discount. I paid full price for it and I would do it again! I hope this helps someone else who is looking for an office upgrade! UPDATE 1/21/17 - After a couple weeks I started having issues with this printer going offline spontaneously and the only way I could seem to get it back online to was by restarting my computer. Around that time we also bought a Roku 4 and started having trouble with streaming. The signal was dropping all the time. I finally realized that it was because of our router, which, while a great work horse for many years, was getting seriously old in "tech years" and needed to be replaced. I bought a dual band Asus router and ever since I installed it we have not only had flawless streaming but the printer now stays "online" all the time! If you're having this issue with it going offline, I would look at your network setup before you blame the printer itself.

Always go for HP printers
As usual, a great HP product. I upgraded (or downgraded depending on how you see it) from a Photosmart printer that has recently seen most of its apps be rendered unusable due to HP killing them off from that generation of printers. I was tired of the random quirks I was having with ePrint since they moved to a new service they call HP Connect. I'm also doing less photo printing and more document scanning. First off: Yes, this printer can do automatic 2 sided scans! I was getting tired of trying to find if it did or not considering the material only points to automatic 2 sided printing and the ability to scan multiple documents to copy as 2 sided (2+ single sided to 1+ double sided). So I honestly bought it on a risk and also due to price when I bought it, $20 less than price shown on 1/18/17. When I installed it, I started messing around with settings and at the bottom of the page options for copying was 2 -> 2 sided. It isn't mentioned anywhere, but that's the setting to take a 2 sided document and copy as a 2 sided document. There was also a 2 -> 1 sided which allows you to undo the dual sided and copy each side as a single page. This will be a huge time saver with all the documents I plan on saving digitally. Second: For the price, this is one of their faster models. Although color still lags behind after all these years, I feel it is still respectable at 11 ppm at best quality. The product page on HP claims it can be as high as 20 ppm or so if using draft. Considering the only color prints I'd use at best quality are photos, this is blazing fast to me. Black can get as high as upper 20's in draft. I have never seen a reason to print a document in best mode, so to have speeds of upper 20's black and roughly 20 color is more than adequate for most people. Also, draft mode ensures a longer life for your cartridges. Even during my heaviest printing times, I've had cartridges last me months using draft mode. And ever since getting the Photosmart as my first dual sided capable printer, I have bought paper in years! I admit though, I over bought paper a few years ago when Staples did buy 2 get 1 free on cases. Third: I have always hated tri-color cartridges. Yellow is ALWAYS the first to go since black printing uses some yellow as well for whatever reason unless you set default document settings to gray-scale. Even when I would print photos way back when, the 3 colors never finished at the same time. A tri-color cartridge guarantees that you will have to buy a new one before using all the ink. Part of the reason I took so long to change printers was that HP seemed to have gone back in time to strictly tri-color. This printer though uses a single cartridge per color! Thank goodness. This is the 21st century, tri-color cartridges should be totally obsolete, or at the very least relegated to the cheapest of models. Fourth: Wi-Fi connection appears very fast. There is a caveat though, this printer takes a while to start from a cold start. I sell often on eBay and print from the app. With the Photosmart, maybe due to the change in service, I used to have to wait a while before the printer processed what it was doing. With this one, as soon as the printer states it's online, it begins within seconds any print job received from either HP Connect or HP Direct (the mobile to printer connection that uses Bluetooth I believe). I have had consistent success with HP Direct since it takes out of the equation everything except my phone and the printer. HP Connect though I always had issues with. The eBay app seems to hate printer plug-ins, so I decided to try going the HP Connect route. This involves e-mailing the printer what you need to print. Well, I e-mailed a shipping label. I decided to sit down and wait the customary forever for it to print (based on Photosmart experiences). After hitting send and touching the chair to sit, the printer had already began the printing process. Since this printer was made after the switch to HP Connect, it went super fast! I can say I am completely impressed. Fifth: Paper tray. Yeah I know how cares, it's a tray. But coming from a Photosmart, being able to put what looks like a third of a ream of paper into the tray is so nice. I always felt I was reloading paper too often on the Photosmart due to the small tray. I do miss the dedicated photo paper tray though. That's all I could think of with my limited use of the printer thus far. The only negative is that I feel it takes too long to be ready from a cold start. I know it is partially my fault because I kill the surge protector to save as many pennies as I can. Florida Power and Light really loves shafting us with the power bills here in Miami. But I have restarted the printer without turning off the surge protector and it still took a bit longer than the Photosmart. But with 5 positives so far vs the Photosmart, whats a bit longer boot up time?

Good value for small home office when on sale
I have had many HP inkjet printers over the past 20 years, and this one isn't my favorite, but it gets the job done for a small Home Office. For us, the Home Office is defined as 2-4 computers running Windows or Mac OS, 30-100 pages printed per week, 300 scans per week). Despite the printer not being the best option for heavy scanning, it makes sense for printing quickly and cheaply in color. The ink quality on documents and worksheets that contain photos or clipart is rich, and outshines some color lasers I have used. PROS: - Fantastic scanning of color-text documents. The scanning bed and auto-feed pick up great details from 75 to 1200 DPI. - The Auto Document Feeder (ADF) can actually handle quite a bit more than 35 pages! If you’re scanning hundreds of double-sided worksheets, you don’t need to babysit the ADF. - HP Easy Scan is a MUST for Mac OS users to get the most out of the scanning features. While Mac OS has great built-in scanning software, you’ll want access to Searchable Text PDF options only provided in the HP Easy Scan that uses fantastically accurate OCR software (courtesy of ReadIRIS software). I am archiving multi-language Hungarian, Japanese and English documents, and picking the more character complex language (i.e., Japanese) allows me to capture the Roman letters of Hungarian and English. Unfortunately, there is no multi-language function so it doesn’t pick up the accented Roman letters of Hungarian if I set it to OCR Japanese. - AirPrint and Bonjour functionality meant the printer was quickly and immediately discovered on our Mac systems running Mac OS 10.12 and beyond. We might've gone to Apple Support to install the latest of all HP Printer Drivers, but it was a quick fix that allowed printing within seconds. - Has USB port in easily accessible location on front of printer. CONS: - Ink cartridges were very hard to release from orange twist-caps. We were concerned we would break them. - The Auto Document Feeder (ADF) rollers have a hard time picking up ultra glossy magazine paper. - The ADF CANNOT scan “too short documents” such as A5, or most "book-sized" documents. You’ll need a dedicated scanner for archiving books, unfortunately. This also means you cannot scan photos, business cards or receipts in the ADF, you must use the flatbed. - The "Scan to Computer" function is grossly under-supported. There is no Scan to Computer functionality for Mac OS--you must activate the scanner from the Mac in either Image Capture or HP Easy Scan. I recommend HP Easy Scan because of the Searchable Text function. - The printing drivers and scanning software on Windows systems is extremely slapdash. Windows 7 and some Windows 10 computers had a hard time finding the printer on the same Wi-Fi network. Once it was found, the Windows 7 computer took some time to locate the printer using HP Easy Scan/Scan to Computer. HP appears to have retired HP Easy Scan for their new "HP Smart" app for Windows 10 computers. But the new HP Smart app is also extremely buggy and may not find the printer, even when you type in the IPv4 address of the printer directly into it. The options on where to save the scanned files is also lacking. I set up 5 Windows Machines and 3 Macs to this printer for scanning--I spent 2 minutes on each Mac and about 20-30 minutes per Windows machine--including Windows 10! I do not have confidence in others to know the nuance for HP Easy Scan and HP Smart for scanning. - Cannot scan to network folders (i.e., if you have FTP or Shared Folders set up via your home office router, this cannot connect to them via SMB protocol). We don't need it since there is a shared public folder on one Windows machine where we'll save the Scanned Documents. It's a work around, sure, but it works.

A great business oriented HP printer that can find a great place also at home!
Spoiler alert: I just buy HP printers but my review is not biased in fact the device in question has an initial defect that can provoke lots of headaches during the setup process. HP always provide great products for the price paid, and you can see that the printer is very well built, the display is very convenient and easy to read. The touch screen is very responsive, however at times I had few issues where I was trying to type 2 and was recording 1. But other than that the touchscreen is really useful especially if you do not plan to use it at all with a computer - something that can be accomplished easily and quickly. If your goal is to set it up straightly as a wireless printer, do not do that immediately, there is a very big issue in the firmware shipped in the printer. You will lose WiFi connectivity and none of your computer will recognize it as connected. Good news is that it can be easily fixed. Be ready to have an ethernet cable instead and connect it to your router, then perform a network setup and turn off Wireless. What you need is the included HP Web Server active, then log in into the web panel and from there trigger a software update. It will take about 5 minutes to complete, restart your printer, activate the WiFi and pair it to your WiFi Router, disconnect the ethernet cable and voila! You will be ready to use your printer everywhere in your small office or home. The printer receive data very quickly and it's able to print a regular color or black white document in just seconds, and the default regular quality is really good for all purposes printouts. You can obviously decide to print using photo paper and the quality of the printouts is astonishing, you won't expect such quality from a OfficeJet and I was a bit concerned but after printing a photo with both the DeskJet and the OfficeJet I can see that the difference is really really minimal, I may see that the DeskJet print a little bit sharper, but it's not something you'll notice unless you have a good eye or a magnifier in your hands. Something that I am really liking is the total full-duplex feature, meaning not only you can print 2 sides easily, but you can get 2 sided copies using the upper feeder. That is a very nice addition and also you can scan double sided/multipage documents easily also using the upper feeder. A difference I noticed between the OfficeJet and the DeskJet is that the software provided for this printer is bare-bone, nothing to scream about. The only mention I may have is the OCR, which is a nice addition but nothing really big. Also, the drivers and control panel design is really "office" oriented, there are not the same amount of options that you will find for a DeskJet. I know, I understand that HP meant all this to be easy-as-possible to avoid distractions to business-oriented-minds but it's also true that regular retail users and home users may buy this printer thinking about "home" usage... Maybe HP can learn and offer different drivers depending the situation, but this is not topic of this discussion. It is important to underline I successfully configured this printer on a Mac, 2 Windows laptops, 1 Linux laptop, 1 ChromeBook and 2 Android devices. While it's frustrating the fact that the interfaces are all different, it's nice to know that Google Cloud Printing is fully functional and supported, and that I can print photos of my outdoor escapades from my android device and finding them already printed when I get home! Inside the box you won't find an ethernet cable nor a usb cable, so if your plan is to connect to a router or directly to a computer via USB be ready to have such cables with you, also do not use the CD to install software to your computer because it's also outdated, once you got the printer connected and you are ready to install it, in your windows pc or macintosh, visit the following url [...] - Follow the simple instructions and you will get the all the required updated software. Notice: The printer itself will recommend this step from the display. Another nice addition, not really useful but still an addition. This printer has sound, yes. Each action is accompanied by soft tone. In the eventuality that you don't like to listen any noise coming from the printer you can just disable sounds and activate also quiet mode, which will slow down the operations but will make the printer extremely quiet. It has a FAX, I tried just once to send a fax to the office and process is really easy, straightforward. You can configure it to work on a dedicated fax line or sharing it with regular telephone line. If you select the second option, the printer I suppose will ring along with your phone but as I haven't received any fax, I cannot say how it rings. Being an HP product I suppose it will just work fine and as expected. All in all, although the installation process is a bit tedious the printer is really top notch, good printout quality, easy of use (once configured) and a plethora of useful features make this a great catch, a printer you should buy for home or for your small office! Plus, it's an HP printer! Quality is assured, it uses 4 separate cartridges, which someone said it's bad while instead is a great plus and furthermore each cartridge is really affordable, HP support in my experience is awesome... so, hit the buy now button! It's the printer you need.

So far, so good - I like this product very much.
This is a replacement for my 8 year old HP All-in-One #5740 which developed a loud grinding noise as it fed paper and began its slow but sure path to death. I regret to report it has totally bit the dust. Simply stated I am very happy with this purchase. Set up was a breeze. Integrating it with my network (eero) was a non-issue. And operation is far better than my previous one. Print quality is good. Scanning capability is good. Fax is good. What more can I expect for $95? Seems like a fair transaction. I have read all of the reviews on this item and so far cannot relate to any of the negative reviews. I've been buying HP printers for at least 20 years and this clearly is the best - so far. I've been using Instant Ink for about 2 years and find that it works very well and saves money. It was very simple to replace my old printer with the new one on the same account and get 2 months free ink as a bonus. I love the fact that the printer does all he work direct with HP in ordering ink when needed. Saves me a trip to Costco or shopping on Amazon. AirPrint works very well (better then before) and my wife finds its very easy to print from her iPhone. I will revisit this review in a couple of months to note how things have gone. But for now, I am very comfortable in giving 5 stars and recommending this printer. Cannot find anything negative to report.

Problem after problem. Avoid!
Ergh. I wanted to like this printer. And for the first few months of ownership it worked just fine. It printed faster and with better quality than the Epson WF-3620 that it replaced. But about four months in, after no more than just a few prints a week, the problems started. First I got a cryptic error message on the display that wouldn't go away no matter how many times I restarted the printer. Chatted with HP support for about two hours, and finally they instructed me to use a special series of key presses (a super-reset, I guess) that cleared up the error code. It hasn't recurred since, but I was pretty annoyed that I wasted all that time. Then I discovered that the ADF duplex function didn't work properly on this printer - when trying to scan or copy a two-sided document it would always pull two pages at the same time but slightly offset (single-sided was fine, and trying different documents didn't solve the issue; strangely my parents' printer of the exact same model doesn't have this issue). Figured I'd live with the problem and just scan/copy single-sided. But today the printer started giving an "out of paper" message even though the cartridge was loaded with paper. No amount of restarting the printer, reloading the paper tray, or trying different paper would get rid of the message. Back to the Epson. HP, you've let me down, and I won't be buying one of your printers again. UPDATE 10/18/2017: The out of paper message on my OfficeJet Pro 6978 went away after the printer was unplugged for a few months. Who knows how long it will work properly before it malfunctions yet again. I also made the mistake a year ago of buying another of the same model for my parents, who also use theirs very lightly. Guess what - a week ago, 9 days after expiration of the warranty, the printer gave the same cryptic error message I had gotten earlier on mine, insisting there was a paper jam when there was not, and then indicating there was a problem with the “printing system.” No amount of restarting or even the hard reset HP support showed me earlier would make it go away. I’ve NEVER seen failures like this with any printer I’ve used, inkjet or laser. Done with HP!

Excellent device for home office
I prefer to be as paperless as possible and I do everything I can not to print. Not only do I find printing wasteful, I also think it's more difficult than printing to a file and using digital signatures. I did not want a printer, especially an ink jet printer with cartridges that constantly dry out and need replacement, slow printing, and all of the bad things ink jets are known for. I didn't want to deal with inconsistent wireless connections or add more cables to my home office. When my wife wanted a printer that didn't cost a fortune, I knew I was in for all of these problems. I couldn't have been more wrong. In the 5 - 10 years that have passed since I last owned an ink jet printer, there have been some major advances. This printer totally changed the way I feel about ink jets. Wireless connectivity has been flawless. HP's app support and integration are way beyond my expectations. I've had zero problems printing from laptops and phones. It works exactly as expected every time. Work remotely over a VPN connection and can't connect to a local printer? No problem. HP's free email-to-print service makes it super easy to print from any device that has email access. Now to my favorite part: scanning. While this device does not have the fastest scanner I've ever used, it is the best. I'm used to high volume office scanners that zip several pages through per second; however, I've never used one that didn't require re-scans due to paper jams when scanning large batches. With the rare exception when scanning glossy paper, this device never jams. I finish the entire job faster because I almost never have to re-scan anything. Furthermore, when an error does occur, HP's software makes it very easy to replace a jammed page and continue the same scan without restarting the document. That is a huge time and frustration saver. You can even begin editing scanned documents before the job completes. Very cool. For documents that don't fit in the feeder, no worries. Just fill up the feeder, let the device scan all the pages, add in the next feeder-full of pages, and continue the same scan document. Perfect solution. I didn't think I would have less paper lying around my office, exceptional networking reliability, no unnecessary frustration with cartridges after getting this device, but I was wrong. This device is a must have for a home office. BTW, HP's Instant Ink program is also worthwhile if you're okay with paying for brand name cartridges and never want to have to worry about running out of ink.

Buen equipo pero consideren que es importado.
Es una buena impresora. Lo malo es que como es importada, las tintas deben ser también importadas lo que hay que considerar al momento de comprarla por los tiempos en que llegan a México y los costos de las tintas.

Extremely fast, excellent document feed scanner
This is the best all-in-one printer/scanner I've ever owned. I have had three different ones from Canon, all of which were good, but this HP OfficeJet beats them all by a mile. The printer is good: Very fast, quiet, and good quality. Save paper with duplex printing or shoot out your documents quickly with single-sided printing. You can also replace the ink cartridges individually by CMYK colour, so you don't need to buy a whole new cartridge just because your yellow is out, for example. The scanner is what blew me away: The ADF (automatic document feed) is extremely fast and so far I haven't seen it suffer from the typical problem of it pulling in multiple pages at a time -- a common issue with the Canons. Also, the ADF offers duplex scanning! The only negative is that the ADF is quite loud. In terms of scanning software (at least for Mac), the HP Easy Scan software that is included is a bit lacking. Yes it works but it's not amazing. I bought VueScan for Mac, which is much more advanced and it works well with this device. And yes, it all works wirelessly, too -- printing and scanning.

Broken in months, replaced under warranty, replacement also no longer working
Loved the colour printing, ease of use, especially with Instant Ink. However.....After a few months of use, it showed an error message that was inaccurate and would not resolve. Finally HP Support informed me it would need to be replaced. I was sent a refurbished identical model. It worked as long as the set-up ink cartridges lasted (not long) - then got same error message as original printer. Now I have 2 of the same printer, neither work, and I need to ship both back to HP. And go through the same very long service call again to get it replaced again. And in the meantime I have no printer, and need to cancel Instant Ink and somehow still get to use the pages I have been charged for but unable to use with no working printer. Not happy HP. Not happy.

Easy set up, great quality and very easy to navigate
I had this computer set up and ready to use within 30 minutes. Once installed you print a paper that ensures the printer is aligned and then you are good to go. The ink lasted for much longer than my 4 year old Epson printer. The printer came with a CD to install onto computers and comes with ink which is nice. Pros: easy set up prints in great quality scanner works very well can print via. bluetooth Printer is very slim Cons: Ive had it for over 2 months and haven't found anything bad yet

Fine for home office prints
First one wiped itself out before I got the ink set used up, but it’s just a throwaway printer
