Works just like I was hoping it would. Starts very easy. Just fallow simple instructions. So far mine has started every time first attempt. Very easy to fill. Flip unit upside down. Flip butane upside down to meet unit. Press butane nozzle into receiving valve. Press butane can to fill unit until fuel comes out of fuel area,simple.

Meh, works nice for the most part. I bought this to create the Malliard effect on beef for sous vide cooking. My expectations were likely too high, so I guess the product is probably very good for what it is was intended for.I noticed a lot of reviews complaining about the reliability of the ignition system. Yes, it is a problem. HOWEVER, the solution is very simple:The ignition wire gets hot and warps. This causes it to "ground out" and misfire onto the ceramic insulator and seek out the metal shroud. All you have to do is gently tweak it back into the path of the gas flow and it works far more reliably. Not perfect, mind you, but much better. And you will have to do it somewhat frequently. Don't b*tch and moan about this, it is simply MAINTENANCE! I doubt you will find a comparable torch that doesn't require the same upkeep, so ignore the whiners. They simply don't get that adjustments are part of owning nearly any mechanical device, and it is a very simple "fix".Very nicely made in terms of fit, finish and (once you get it) reliability.I wouldn't buy it again for browning a steak or a roast, but it is most definitely a well made product that will work very well if your expectations are realistic.P.S. - I did wait several months and went through quite a few refills before submitting this review. I didn't want to slam a product because it didn't do what I wanted, I decided to wait to see if it performed as promised. It does. Just remember to be realistic about its capabilities and that it will need frequent maintenance. I gave it 5 stars because it does what it says it will do. I am curious about making creme' broulee now, as I think this is likely ideal for that, and other similar tasks. Good little torch...

This is my first blow torch so I can't compare it to others, however, this is a solid-feeling and very handsome torch. It lights "the first time" and is easy to fill and control. I first used it to sear a pot roast and was pleased with how easy it was to use and get just the right color. It has a very large fuel chamber that is claimed to flame for more than an hour per filling. I filled it with the "Vector" brand refined butane gas. I guess I shouldn't say this, but I later used this torch outside to instantly terminate a number of wasp nests. I won't be buying any chemical wasp sprays now. I love to cook and am just getting into the sous vide cooking method that needs either a torch or hot grill to crisp the foods after cooking.
