Good for cave people
I bought this back when you still had to buy a separate attachment to get faster internet because your motherboard didn't have one. I still remember when I first moved out at the ripe age of 19 in the YEAR 2001, the wild wasteland of technology, I decided I needed to up my internet game. I called and ordered broadband, and they said I first had to order a ethernet card if I didn't already have one. I DIDN'T!The internet worked on my computer from day one, and kept working and working. I don't even know where this card is now. Where did that computer go? I've frankensteined so many computers now that this is probably sitting in a box somewhere. I'm sure it would still work if I plugged it in, but I don't know. WHO IS EVEN IN THE MARKET FOR ONE OF THESE ANYMORE?! Who are you people, sitting at home with your pre-2000 era computers? I guess if you need to buy one for whatever reason, this can't hurt, but honestly maybe you should just think about updating your computer.

what an outrage
We have always trusted Netgear for its quality merchandise at a reasonable price. So when we needed a network interface card, Netgear was the natural choice. Model FA311 was selected as the best choice for the system. We googled FA311 and Amazon, found one at a reasonable price, and ordered it-- no hesitation, we trusted Netgear. Not any more! First problem, the box had no shrink wrap, and no seal on the box...but then things got interesting. The seal on the anti-static bag was broken. Hmmm...the item description said "New". Oh well, if it worked we would keep it. After installing the card in the PCI slot we noticed that the cable would not snap into place. No cable that we tried would give that reassuring snap. OK, maybe a bit of electrical tape would keep it in place. But, there was NO green light-- ever! Not even a flash! We removed the card to inspect it, and discovered that there appeared to be notch that would not allow the cable to be retained in the port-- Physically and electrically this was a defective unit! We called the seller to ask them for an exchange, hoping that the replacement unit would function properly. They said they did not have another one in stock, but would refund our money--- but we had to pay return shipping, sending the item by a method that provided a tracking number. Though it was clearly not our fault that the item was defective, we were going to have to pay shipping costs that amounted to half of the purchase price, if we wanted a refund. We were so fed up with the vendor, DATAVISION, that we will not send the item back, we will not request a refund, we will never do business with them again! The product was represented as new and clearly was not new. The product was defective and all they could offer was to pay them to give us a refund. If we were to return the card and request a refund, I would not be surprised if they would turn around and sell it to some other trusting, unsuspecting fool, who would return it and give the chance to cheat yet another person. This smells like a racket! Back to the FA311--after deciding that Datavision was not the place to buy anything, we went back and searched again on Amazon, this time finding a listing that had ratings! Had these ratings been attached to all listings of FA311, we never would have purchased the item to begin with. After reading the reviews on Amazon.com and other online reviews on, we concluded that we would never again trust Netgear. If, after reading the reviews, you decide that you still want to purchase the FA311, get it from [...]...for $19.99 plus shipping. You can rest easy knowing you are getting manufacturer's sealed merchandise, and you will be able to exchange it if the card proves defective. So, who failed here?1. Datavision - For selling defective, used equipment as new and for not having items in stock to replace a defective one. I suspect they were fully aware that the card we received was not new and that it would never function.2. Amazon - for not attaching the ratings to each listing of the FA3113. Netgear - the card we received seems to be incorrectly designedI suppose we should share in the blame...we should have thoroughly researched the FA311, we should not have trusted Amazon to index their products and reviews properly, and we should not have trusted Netgear without doing our homework. The moral?...as always, let the buyer beware!

The Perfect Home LAN Card
When it came time to put together my home LAN of four machines, I decided that I needed a fast card that would be easy to install and setup on all of my machines no matter what OS they were running. Thar card fit the bill perfectly! I've got it in all four machines and it functions flawlessly weather you're running under Windows NT/98/ME or under Linux. The only thing I will say is to run under Linux you gotta know how to install kernel modules, however most netcards are like that unless Linux has the support built in already. All in all a great card for any Home LAN. Strongly reccomended.

Buy it
If you haven't got a brand new PC chances are you'll need to add a network card if you want to do some home networking. Well that's why I bought this, and it does it's job perfectly. I's simple to fit and I've got 2 pc's connected to a Netgear 834g adsl router and everything works fine. I had to buy a cable for one of the pc's as the router only comes with 1 cable but now I have a home network with 2 pc's and a ps2 connected to broadband. I bought this over cheaper versions to make sure there wasn't going to be any compatability issues with the Netgear router and there hasn't been.Don't think about it, just buy it, and buy it from Amazon - always a superb service. There was meant to be a 2 week wait for this when I ordered it but it arrived in typical Amazon fashion a week early.

Easy to install, with no problems.
I purchased this to go with my new router, then worried when I saw the reviews. However, everything has been fine. It's very easy to fit into the computer, and worked first time. I don't play games, but it's given me no problems with downloads such as BitTorrents.I've not used a pci card before, so can't compare, but for me it certainly does the job.
