I prefer fans and natural air to AC unless it’s very hot outside, especially at night! My Vornados get me through the North Carolina weather with NO or MINIMAL AC almost exclusively, unless it’s 95+ degrees outside. I purchased 3 small fans for my office, kitchen, and bathroom and one large fan (660) that I use in my bedroom or the living room when I have guests. I use them DAILY and I’m presently sitting comfortably about 8 feet from the small one, with no AC in early July. I purchased the fans about 4 years ago and I’m still loving them. They are quiet on lower settings but mine are always on high, so I hear the comforting white noise of the fan, which is my preference. During zoom meetings, I use a quiet lower setting. Only two challenges I’ve experienced so far: 1. The smaller fans rise out of position and would eventually point towards the ceiling if I don’t use something to keep it wedged in place. I use a rock. Not ideal, but I make it work. 2. The fuse in the plug may pop after a while. This looks like a minor job to replace it. Wanted a fan that was easy to carry, didn't take too much power and had decent speed and moved good volume of air. After doing some research, this one fit the bill. Pros: 1. Good quality and good material used. Decent heft and not too cheap plastic. 2. Though not too small, it is tiny enough to be put in a suitcase or a small tote. 3. Good power and really moves the air around. We can be up to 10 feet away and still feel the cool air. 4. The handle is well placed, making it easy to carry and place. 5. It does not get too hot after running for a long time. Cons: 1. Vornado products while priced competitively are almost at higher end of spectrum. But value wise I think they aren't bad. 2. One day, my beautiful half accidentally bumped it and the fan had a 3 feet hard fall onto the stone tile. The customer service agent checked the warranty information and sent us the replacement part without any charge, despite of being our fault. It took some time to put it back, once the part arrived, as the disassembly and assembly are a little cumbersome. Now it is running as good as new. Bottomline: The product and the customer service of this company deserves 4.7 out of 5.0. I will be buying several of Vornado products in the future, when need comes. But it's not really intended to do so. Think of this less like a "fan" that blows air straight on you. It certainly does that, but it's column of air is so narrow and direct that it's not really ideal for that. Rather, think of this as a circulator. Point it at the wall above your bed and there will be no fight over who is getting the better end of the fan because it will legitimately spray the air from where the fab is located to wherever it is pointed. Point it from the floor to near the corner of the ceiling and wall above your bed and everything and everyone along that wall will get bathed in air, lam to he while everything in the room is mixed as if I a perfect air burrito. No chinks of warm air. Just everything perfect. **Q: Does it have an oil port on the motor?** A: Had this fan for 5 years, and it is one of the best fans you can buy. Problems are it doesn't oscillate, and the fan gets full of dust. Recently the fan started making a noise and the fan blade was not moving. Took the fan apart including the motor and motor housing. Cleaned all of the dust out and sprayed some of the plastic parts in the shower with hot water. The motor rotor was still not spinning, so lubricated both ends of the rotor rod with wd40, and it is back to new again. Have the Vornado heater, and that's a nice product. Looking for another large Vornado fan with a stand and oscillation, remote. **Q: Does anyone use this fan to force cool air from downstairs, up into the warmer second level of home, by placing it near the foot of a staircase?** A: I have this fan on the floor of a room that sits below a balcony hallway. I have the fan pointed to move the cool air up into the higher spaces. It seems to move a large amount of air pretty quickly and relatively quietly compared to other fans twice its diameter. It quickly mixes the cooler air from below with the warmer air up in the high spaces to even out the temperature. I have an ecobee system with multiple temperature monitors. When I turn on the fan the temperature in the upstairs drops by two or three degrees in about 10-15 minutes. **Q: Is this fan 240v compatible? I'm contemplating ordering this for use in Australia** A: Hello Jonathan, 660 model (and all Vornado models) motor has been re-worked for Australian Consumers. Do NOT buy the 120V model if you are using it in Australia. The 120V model only works for a couple of hours in Australia before the motor blows. This model is available in Australia. It is the fourth one that I have purchased for my home. I now have one in my bedroom, both my children’s rooms, and our guest room. It is quite powerful - comes with several settings and really moves air well. I appreciate how easy it is to turn on and off, and move from room to room, if needed. The durability is fantastic! My family and I sleep with fans on, overnight, every night of the year. The first Vornado I purchased was over ten years ago and it still works like a charm! The price is definitely up there, but it is most certainly worth it based on how it is built. The only downside is that they are a bit on the louder side.
