Flood Floetrol Latex Paint Additive & Conditioner

Very experienced DIY'er here. Been painting and refinishing various things for a lot of years. Can't believe it took me this long to discover this stuff. I'm working on a big built-in cabinet project. All scratch built. Started painting some of it with sprayer because I didn't want brush or roller marks. But what a nuisance that sprayer is. Wastes paint, takes way too long to set up, gotta put up plastic everywhere, takes too much space to do the spraying. And the CLEANUP -- yuck -- takes forever! I've got a lot of painting left to do on these cabinets. About twelve feet wide by nine feet high. Need to paint the cabinet interiors, face frames, shelves, and 20 doors. So I started Googling to see if I could find a way to paint by hand without leaving brush or roller marks. I found mention of Floetrol on a forum somewhere. Dug further. Bought some. Figured I'd try it on a few of the adjustable shelves to see if I could avoid hauling out the sprayer and all that plastic sheeting for the rest of the project. Just tried it. Shelves were already painted with primer and sanded. Added eight oz of Floetrol to a little less than a gallon of Sherwin Williams Emerald Interior Acrylic Latex Paint (semigloss). Definitely need to make sure you mix up the Floetrol itself -- very gloppy. Then when I added to the paint, I mixed the heck out of it with the paint mixer drill attachment. Used Ace best quality small (4" x 3/8" nap) white woven paint roller to spread the paint. I was pretty generous with the amount I applied. Great news: looks like it was sprayed. No trace of a roller mark. Nice, smooth, uniform coverage. No need to do another coat either. I do think the resulting finish is a little less glossy than it would have been without the Floetrol, but definitely worth it. With so much more painting to do on this project, I'm very glad I found Floetrol. Saved from the sprayer!

Works great at thinning paint so that it will flow through an airless sprayer easily. One thing I did notice is this brand requires more ounces per gallon than other brands I’ve used in the past. So it does require more ounces meaning that you get less gallons of paint for the money.

Really works to remove brush strokes and provides a very smooth finish.

I use this all the time to do poor painting, and we use it when we paint our house. Makes the paint go farther when you paint your house.

Does the job

Notes from a DIY home remodeler, not a professional painter… I’ve been painted a lot of interior moldings and doors over the past 50 years. Interior and exterior paint has changed a lot in that time. Back in “the day”, up to 10-15 years ago, paint flowed well, was thick, and when brushed on easy and settled into a smooth finish. But at that time the expectation about water-soluble paint viscosity/drying time was based on the qualities typical to quality oil-base paints, and for that matter, paints that had contained lead. Fast forward to now, and little old me. For the life of me, I couldn’t get the wide range of the paints I tried out to lay down flat and smooth, not even with added water or dish detergent. So I tried Flood’s Floetrol, and my word, the paint is flowing perfectly off my brush again. With this additive, the paint does take more time to dry. But, oh my, the alternative… brush marks, and sometimes rough-surfaced finishes, delivery us from that. Flood, thank you!

The product came faster than the date mentioned in the order. I have been trying acrylic pour with silicon oil but no cells came. By using fleotrol cells came in my first bloom painting itself. It is costly as shipped from outside India I think. However I feel it was worth the experience.
